🧒Grade 1 - Grade 3

From busy beavers damming rivers, to eagles building big aeries, to ants who farm their own food, animals are amazing engineers. We still have spaces in our Animal Engineers Summer Camp, where we'll explore how animals craft their environment, and then we’ll work together as humans to tackle some fun animal engineering challenges! Saturday’s Biodiversity Jamboree marked not only our 30th birthday and an official resolution by recognizing our work to connect people with nature, but also one of our most successful festivals of all time! 500 of you showed up to celebrate biodiversity, learn what you can do to protect the environment in your community and backyard, and (most importantly) have an awesome time. We’re so grateful for our community!

We’re also deeply grateful for all our partners and friends that made this possible.

🦅Thank you to Vermont Institute of Natural Science for educating us about birds of prey!
🐦Thank you to the Vermont Center for Ecostudies for demonstrating songbird banding!
🐛Thank you to Vermont Center for Ecostudies for collaborating on the Insect Lab
🪴Thank you to and for making native plants available
🎤 Thank you to , the Spring Chickens ( , , ) and everyone who contributed to the open mic - especially the tigers!
🌮Thank you to for the delicious tacos

And to all of our NBNC staff and volunteers for your hard work that kept everything running smoothly!

Last but not least, this event wouldn’t be possible without our generous sponsors:

We still have spaces in our On the Wing Summer Camp, so save your seat while you can! From birds to bats to butterflies, we’ll learn how nature takes flight by looking at the winged wildlife of NBNC. We’ll catch, observe, and release these curious creatures as well as do some experiments to explore how animals defy gravity.

Polyamorous primates. Gender-fluid fish. Sex-role-reversed seahorses. “Very gay” waterfowl.

Welcome to the wild world of SECOND NATURE: a mind-expanding documentary produced and narrated by Elliot Page that explores q***rness, fluidity, and diversity across 1,500+ species in the natural world.

We're proud to sponsor this film as part of the Q***r Film Festival at savoytheatervt!

Second Nature follows trans evolutionary biologist Dr. Joan Roughgarden and a group of q***r, BIPOC, and immigrant scientists as they challenge long-held assumptions about s*x, gender, and behavior. In a political moment where scientific truth is increasingly contested, the film traces a shift from “sometimes this happens” to evidence-based consensus, leaving the myth of fixed biological norms behind.

Also: it’s really really cute 🐧🐒🦁🦆🥰

Directed by Drew Denny
Saturday, June 6th, 4:30pm, The Savoy Theater

Stick around after the screening for a discussion led by Ash Kerby-Miller, our very own Staff Naturalist.
