North Branch Nature Center is celebrating Birdability Week with a day of accessible birding on Saturday, October 24! Birdability Week (October 19 - 25) is a celebration of birders with disabilities and other health concerns, and an opportunity to share resources and ideas to help the birding community become accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everybody.

The event at NBNC will include guided bird outings along the Universal Access Trail and meadow trail, and a guided stationary bird watch (a little “Big Sit”). Inside the Nature Center building, check out the bird feeders and learn more about NBNC, Vermont Land Trust, Birdability, the Feminist Bird Club of Vermont, and other organizations providing accessible outings and trails and advocating for inclusive birding. Binoculars will also be available for birdwatching, and snacks and c***r will be available thanks to a donation by Hunger Mountain Co-op !

♿Accessibility info: The NBNC library will be reserved as a quiet space. Masking is welcomed and extra masks will be available at the door. There will be additional accessible parking spaces for this event. ASL interpretation for bird walks and the Big Sit provided by Vancro Integrated Interpreting Services and donated by the Vermont Center for Independent Living. Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs we can help accommodate!

We're so excited to announce our FREE Fall 2026 Visiting Teacher Naturalist workshop on Ecological Belonging, with Brooke Marie Bridges!

Brooke Marie Bridges is a vitalist herbalist, somatic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy coach, and the founder of Unearthing Wellness. She approaches the natural world as both teacher and co-regulator, believing that the relationship between human nervous systems and the living earth is not metaphorical but biological, and that restoring that relationship is some of the most important healing work available to us right now.

At NBNC, Brooke will facilitate a variety of workshops for youth and adults, including a session for BIPOC participants. Each workshop will help people reconnect with the natural world and develop a felt sense of belonging through observation, sensory awareness, story telling and reflection.

We invite you to join us and slow down, become more aware of yourselves and your surroundings, and recognize the relationships that connect us to the natural world. See below for the full schedule of workshops with Brooke.

Did you know you can rent space at NBNC for your next meeting or event? Our beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces are perfect for:

Facilities include a cozy yurt, a large outdoor event tent, and an indoor multipurpose room with an A/V system and kitchen access. NBNC members at the Spotted Salamander and Black Bear levels even get a 10% discount on rentals!

NBNC supported the last accessible paddle of the summer at Arrowhead Lake in collaboration with NDAA and South Hero Land Trust! Even though it was late in the season, we were blessed with a beautiful day. As we paddled and enjoyed our time on the water, we watched migratory water fowl, including Canada Geese, preparing for their long journeys while other species like Osprey came by in search of a meal. It has been a great season and we are so grateful to work with these partners and all the adaptive paddlers. Looking forward to many more accessible paddles next summer!

📣 Story time! Nikolas Kotovich, an artist and naturalist whose work explores how these two disciplines can inform each other, traveled around the US at a young age with birding organizations… which included North Branch Nature Center. Now, as seasoned a professional artist, he’s returning to his roots by displaying his work at an art show in NBNC’s gallery! We’re so excited to host his amazing work, and invite you to come join us on Friday, October 9, from 5-7 pm, to meet the artist, tour the gallery, and enjoy some light refreshments as you take in the art.

A portion of all art sales supports NBNC and our mission, Connecting People with the Natural World.

Regular gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9 am - 4 pm. This exhibit will be open from October 5 through December 18.

We can’t wait to see you there!
