It’s time Modernize Our Eye Care Laws - Tell the Speaker of the House to move the bill!

Vermont has an opportunity to join 16 other states by passing legislation that allows optometrists to practice at the top of their education and training. �
S.64 is carefully crafted to ensure patient safety while expanding access to essential eye care. These bills require rigorous additional training, supervised preceptorships, and certification before optometrists can perform advanced procedures such as laser treatments, minor eyelid surgeries, and therapeutic injections.

Our optometric scope expansion bill, S.64, passed decidedly out of the Senate on 3/27/2026 after winding its way through four committees. A huge thank you to the Vermont Senate for moving it on. It will make its way over to the House next week, and we are hopeful it will move quickly through the process to a vote by the end of the session. Please continue to reach out to your local representatives to voice your support for this bill!
