It’s happening in Colorado, and it’s happening here in New England. Vermont State Parks has proposed to shift to “demand-based pricing” for day entry and overnight camping, with no upper limit on fees. Enough is enough. Americans are struggling under the weight of rising prices for everything; our public lands must remain accessible to all. Find more info and send a comment to Vt State Parks by June 11th using the link in the comments.

Higher fees could turn one of Colorado’s most visited public lands into a place only some people can afford

Heads-up! After four years of hard-fought advocacy by Standing Trees and our allies, Vermont ANR is doing something it’s never done before: it’s creating a set of requirements for how it will develop plans and make decisions about state lands, and how it will involve the public - meaning YOU - in those deliberations.

The state’s draft rule needs your help to make it better. Submit a comment by June 18th and join one of the upcoming public meetings, starting June 3rd, to make your voice heard! Go to standingtrees.org/blog for a full list of upcoming hearings and a sample comment letter.

Thanks for keeping it wild!

Rescind the Roadless Rule and open up 1/3 of all National Forest lands to logging and road building? Not if we have anything to say about it! Thanks to the dozens of public land supporters who showed up and spoke out last week in Hanover!

Conservation groups oppose federal effort to roll back rule protecting 235,000 acres in New Hampshire and 25,000 acres in Vermont.

Thank you, Spirit in Nature Trails in Ripton, VT!

On Sunday, Spirit in Nature honored Standing Trees’ Board Chair and co-founder Mark Nelson with its Eco Spirit Award “for his advocacy for old growth forests, through the work of Standing Trees.” “The Eco-Spirit Award is presented annually to persons whose lives are illuminated by their appreciation of the beauty, mystery, and preciousness of the natural world. They are dynamic role models who engage us in debate, and urge us to explore the implications of our behavior during our present global environmental crisis. They lead us to a path of hope for the future of all life and nature on earth.”

The beautiful Spirit in Nature Trails are located on the Green Mountain NF and are open to all. Trails feature quotes from many major religions and encourage meditation and re-creation.
