From October 10–13, MATE ROV Academy brought educators together at the Florida Institute of Oceanography in St. Petersburg for the MATE Barracuda ROV Kit Workshop!

Through hands-on activities and advanced ROV-building experiences, participants explored how to bring the engineering design process to life in their classrooms, equipping them with the skills and confidence to inspire the next generation of marine technology innovators. 🚀

🌊 Are you ready to put your organizational skills and enthusiasm for marine technology to work? Do you want to join the MATE team? Now's your chance! 🤖

We're looking for a MATE Competition Registrar to join our growing headquarters team as a part-time contractor. The Registrar is responsible for overseeing MATE competition registration planning and coordination, organization and management of databases, maintaining documentation and compliance of registered participants. This role will manage and administer the registration system of the MATE ROV Competition to support regional competitions and the MATE World Championship event.

✨ Essential functions include:
- Managing the event registration system (Active)
- Refining and documenting the process for gathering and tracking regional registration information
- Compiling the annual competition registration data and summary report
- Contributing registration data to inform the process for tracking competition network and revenue growth

From the MATE ROV Competition to a black tie dinner! 🤿🎓

Two students from team ImpROVise from Keith Grammar School, accompanied by their teacher, recently presented at the SUT AGM and black-tie dinner, sharing highlights and photos from their trip to St. John’s.

It's incredible to see the confidence and presentation skills these students have. Their journey is a great example of the lasting impact of hands-on STEM experiences and the opportunities MATE creates for students to build skills that can carry into their future careers.

What a great two days of underwater robotics in Kampala! 🤿🤖

On September 16–17, educators gathered at the ASIST Training Centre for a MATE ROV Underwater Robotics Teacher Training Workshop, gaining hands-on experience with ROV components, operation, troubleshooting, programming and testing.

It has been amazing to see the growth of the MATE ROV community in Uganda. A huge thank you to the Marine Technology Society and Schmidt Ocean Coalition for making this possible. Next stop: the Uganda MATE ROV Regional in January 2027! 🇺🇬

What an incredible two days in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, building, testing, and flying PufferFish ROVs! 🤿

Participants got hands-on experience with the fundamentals of ROV design and construction: from building frames and propulsion systems to soldering, waterproofing, assembling control systems, and connecting tethers.

A huge thank you to our National Marine Sanctuary partners at Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary and Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary for helping make this workshop possible and connecting participants with the incredible work happening in our Great Lakes. 🌊

And a special shoutout to Visit Sheboygan for welcoming us to Sheboygan and providing a great home base for the workshop!
