The Offset Project

The Offset Project Our mission is to reduce carbon emissions through education and grassroots initiatives.

The Offset Project (TOP) was formed as a 501-(c)3 non-profit community organization in 2007 on the Monterey Peninsula. TOP is an environmental organization creating programs that fulfill our mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through education and grassroots initiatives. We continually seek to integrate ways for the community to learn and interact and to guide businesses and special events

toward carbon reduction strategies. The Offset Project is a coalition of individuals who empower our communities to create change. TOP works with local businesses and special events to establish sustainable policies and implement best practices in environmental stewardship. To date, TOP has received three green leadership awards from local business organizations.

The good news is, our collective efforts to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost have made San Francisco the most successful big city in America at reducing what goes to landfill. The bad news is, plastics have become a huge issue for all of us. “60 Minutes” recently aired a powerful segment on pl...

We are so proud and honored to be part of this project! The Food Bank for Monterey County, in partnership with TOP, received a CalRecycle food rescue grant for $475,000 earlier this year, and the majority of funds went to the Food Bank's new refrigeration unit, seen by the public during tonight's open house. We are excited to start brand new outreach to the agriculture community of the Salinas Valley and see how the Food Bank grows and evolves in the coming years.

Good morning TOP followers! Please take note, Clean Water Action is circulating the link below to potentially pass a Monterey County ordinance to make producers responsible for pharmaceutical take-back programs, as many other CA counties have done. The Senate in Washington State recently passed a statewide bill called the WA Secure Drug Take-Back Act, which now moves to the House.

We the undersigned support an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model that requires manufacturers of pharmaceutical and sharps to implement collection programs for household medications and needles and to do extensive public education and outreach to promote those programs. We look to Monterey....

The Offset Project is proud to partner with the California International Marathon this weekend in Sacramento. We'll be assisting CIM in their quest for Environmental Certification from The Council For Responsible Sport.

CIM is going GREEN!

We are working with the Council for Responsible Sport to become a event and reach certification! Here are just a few ways you can help:

- Donate gently used clothing and shoes at the CIM Expo
- Help divert waste from our landfills by using our sustainability stations at the expo, start line, and finish line
- Cut down on plastic water bottles and use our water refill stations

Happy late America Recycles Day! Remember that recycling isn’t just about bottles and cans anymore— it’s about considering the end-of-life impacts of ALL products as well as creative recycling solutions. And let’s not forget to consider the full lifecycle impact of products and the importance of reduction and reuse. We all have work to do!💪🌎
