SML LionsBack In Service to Franklin County Students
September is back to school for more than Franklin County K-Middlel School students. It is also the time of year that SML Lions go into those schools and do vision testing on all students (parents are allowed to opt-out their children). Twice a week, for the early weeks of the school year, teams of 5-6 Lions travel to two schools to do a non-invasive pass or needs-referral testing on all of the county’s public school, and a few private school, children in K-Middle School. We provide the opportunity for every child in attendance on the day we visit a school to be tested. We screen several hundred students each day we are in the schools. The photo is from a recent visit at Snow Creek Elementary. The Lions are accompanied by the County’s Nurse Coordinator, Teresa Brown, that establishes the school visits with our Vision Leader, Tom Merriman, pictured next to her. Also pictured L-R are Lions Tom Scott, Bill Ohlerich, Dave Lohr and Dave Huffman. Vision is one of the cornerstone service activities for the nearly 1.4 million Lions Club members around the world.
If service like these vision screening activities or other service to our lake communities is of interest to you, please reach out to the SML Lions Club by email at [email protected]. We meet the Farmhouse Restaurant in Moneta on the second Thursday of each month at 6 PM. We would like you to attend for first hand experience with our Lions. Contact us at the email above to make your reservation before our next meeting.
