Today is ! Did you know that our collection contains two large bird eggs? These eggs came from an ostrich and a rhea farm-raised in the Town of St. Stephen, SC in the 1990s.

The rounder (and larger) of the two eggs belonged to the ostrich; the more stereotypical "egg-shaped" one is a rhea egg.

The Berkeley County Museum is closed today. We will reopen with regular hours tomorrow, May 26.

On May 1, 1865, roughly 10,000 Charlestonians, mostly Black, held a parade and memorial ceremony for these war dead.
