A Proud Moment for WakeUp Carolina!

WakeUp Carolina was honored to receive the South Carolina Department of Veterans' Affairs (SCDVA) Silver Award, recognizing our commitment to being a veteran-friendly workplace and our continued service to the veteran community through our Serving Those Who Served (STWS) program.

This recognition means so much to our entire team. What started as a vision to create something meaningful for our veterans has grown into a community built on Connection, Authenticity, Purpose, and Service.

Through STWS, we've witnessed firsthand the power of veterans supporting veterans, rebuilding connections, finding purpose, and improving lives.

A special thank you to SCDVA for this recognition and to our incredible WakeUp Carolina leadership, staff, volunteers, and community partners who joined us today to celebrate this milestone. Your belief in our mission and continued support make this work possible.

We're truly grateful for this honor, but even more excited about what lies ahead as we continue expanding our reach and strengthening the veteran community throughout the Lowcountry.

You think it’s just weed…

But today’s cannabis is stronger than ever.

The compound behind the high is Delta-9 THC — and it affects your brain more than most people realize.

Here’s what matters:

👉 It alters mood, perception, and reaction time
👉 It can impact memory and decision-making
👉 It may increase anxiety or panic in some users
👉 Higher potency = higher risk

⚠️ And here’s the shift…

This isn’t the same cannabis from years ago.
THC levels are higher. Edibles are stronger. Effects last longer.

What feels “normal” can hit a lot harder than expected.

This isn’t about judgment — it’s about awareness.

Know what you’re using. Know how it affects you.

If you or someone you know is struggling, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

📚 IN PLAIN SIGHT | A Conversation About Fentanyl Awareness

Yesterday, WakeUp Carolina had the opportunity to attend In Plain Sight at the Wando Library, featuring Ben Westhoff, author of Fentanyl, Inc.

The conversation highlighted the growing dangers of fentanyl, its impact on our communities, and the importance of education, awareness, and prevention.

At WakeUp Carolina, we believe knowledge saves lives. The more we understand about the evolving drug crisis, the better equipped we are to prevent overdoses, reduce stigma, and connect individuals and families with life-saving resources.

👏 Thank you to Wando Library, CCPL, Ben Westhoff, and everyone who helped make this important community conversation possible!

Awareness leads to prevention. Connection creates hope. Recovery saves lives. 💜

Recovery looks different for everyone…
but one thing stays the same—
no one does it alone.

Today we’re highlighting:

👉 Colin Gray
C.A.R.E.S. Peer Recovery Coach
WakeUp Carolina

For Colin, recovery isn’t just about removing substances—
it’s about building something new in its place.

A new mindset.
A new direction.
A new life.

What makes Colin stand out is his ability to connect. Not from a textbook… but from lived experience. He understands what it’s like to feel stuck—and what it takes to move forward.

What fuels his work?

👉 Watching someone realize they’re not alone
👉 Seeing hope replace doubt
👉 Being there when that “light switch” moment happens

His approach is real, honest, and simple:
If doing it alone worked… it would’ve worked by now.

Sometimes the strongest thing someone can do is let another person in.

Every day, Colin shows up to walk alongside individuals as they rebuild, rediscover purpose, and create a life worth staying for

Show Colin some love in the comments 👇

More of the WakeUp Carolina team coming your way soon—stay tuned.
