Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust

Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust LBCT is a private non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and preserving important land in the areas surrounding the Santee and Cooper Rivers.

Land trusts like Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust work with private property owners to develop customized conservation strategies for their land. Typically, this results in the voluntary placement of their land under a conservation easement, a legally binding agreement that restricts extensive development. The agreements generally allow the property to remain in private ownership and continue to b

e used for traditional purposes such as hunting, farming, and timber management. A conservation easement is permanent, thus ensuring the integrity of the land will be secured in perpetuity.

We're grateful for the support of community partners like Atlantic Pest and Termite Management Inc. who joined us at our 6th annual Clays for Conservation event last week.

With participation in fundraising events and sponsorships, local businesses play an important role in helping fund the protection of Berkeley County's farms, forests, and waterways.

If your business would like to get involved, we'd love to have you join us next Spring 2027. Send us a message on Facebook or email [email protected] to learn how your company can participate.

Thank you to all the teams, sponsors, and volunteers who made this year's 2026 Clays for Conservation event such a success!

Grateful for opportunities to serve alongside our community 🙏
Our team was honored to sponsor and participate in Lord Berkeley’s Clays for Conservation. Days like this remind us how blessed we are to support a cause that protects what God has given us.

Congratulations to Raleigh West, former Executive Director of Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust (2013-2019), on his impactful leadership at the South Carolina Conservation Bank.

His dedication to land conservation in South Carolina has helped protect thousands of acres of working lands and wildlife habitat.

We are proud that LBCT was part of that journey and grateful for the role he played in strengthening conservation across the Lowcountry.

Wishing him continued success in his next chapter!

Raleigh West took charge of the SC Conservation Bank after a series of controversies. Now, he’s leaving following a string of land protection successes.
