Join us on September 11 from 5 to 8 PM for a special JRPC community event in partnership with the Missoula Peace Quilters and Soft Landing Missoula. No sewing experience is needed. All materials will be provided, and everyone is welcome.
As we commemorate September 11, we’ll gather in a spirit of peace, community, and connection. Throughout the day and into the evening, we’ll be making peace cranes and sharing the Eternal Flame of Peace. At 5 PM, we’ll begin the Sew Along, creating together in support of Soft Landing Missoula.
Come spend the evening making something meaningful, connecting with others, and reflecting on our shared hope for peace.

The Missoula Peace Park has a story that goes back long before the land was acquired.

In this video, Betsy Mulligan-Dague, Executive Director of the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center from 2005 to 2021, reflects on what the original metal peace sign at Waterworks meant to people in Missoula, and how it became part of a vision that eventually led to acquiring the land where the Missoula Peace Park stands today.

The Peace Park grew from years of community, connection, and a shared belief that peace deserves a place in our city. Now, we’re continuing that story together.

On August 9, we gathered at Missoula Peace Park to remember the victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and to honor the voices of those who survived.

As we reflected together, we renewed our commitment to peace, remembrance, and a world free of nuclear weapons.

We’re also sharing excerpts from the Nagasaki Peace Declaration, a call to listen to the voices of the hibakusha, strengthen international cooperation, and work toward a world free of nuclear weapons. Swipe through to read some of the declaration and its message of peace.

Join us on Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 pm at the ALI Auditorium for a Mansfield Dialogue with Carol and Denise Juneau co-sponsored by the Friends of the Montana Constitution.

The 1972 Montana Constitution didn’t happen by accident and neither did the promises it made to Indian Education. Both promises were won, and are still being won, by people who kept showing up.

Carol Juneau and Denise Juneau, a mother and daughter who’ve spent their careers on opposite ends of the same fight—one in the legislature and one turning law into practice in classrooms across the state—will share the story of how a constitutional promise gets written and how it only survives because generations of people refuse to let it go unkept.

This Humanities Montana place-based talk explores how Indigenous stories, history, and lived relationships with land shape conservation in real and practical ways. Drawing from her field-based storytelling and visual storytelling (photo & video) work with Iron Shield Creative, Lailani shares how Indigenous knowledge systems are not symbolic or stuck in the past, but living ways of understanding stewardship, responsibility, and care for the natural world. Through story and time on the land, Lailani invites participants to reflect on their own connection to place and what it truly means to care for the “wider community” (natural world) and future generations.
