Montana CASA / GAL Association Supporting local programs providing court-appointed volunteer advocacy to abused/neglected children

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) or GAL (Guardian ad Litem) volunteers serve as the “eyes and ears” of the judge, gathering relevant information about the child and the family. They make recommendations to the judge regarding what is in the child’s best interests. A CASA/GAL volunteer works to ensure that the child is placed in a safe, permanent and nurturing home as quickly as possible. By

speaking for the child, the CASA/GAL ensures that the wishes and needs of the child are not overlooked by the many competing interests at play.

June is National Reunification Month, and at Montana CASA, we see firsthand how much heart, patience, and support it takes to bring families back together. ❤️💙

Behind every reunification is a child who wants to feel safe again, a family working hard to rebuild, and a CASA volunteer showing up consistently to make sure no one is overlooked. Reunification isn’t always easy, but it is possible, and it changes lives.

A Story of Hope: Alyssa's Story from CASA of Missoula

Alyssa grew up without stability—moving through foster homes after being born to an incarcerated mother. By her teens, her parents’ rights were terminated, and she battled addiction before landing in juvenile detention with nowhere to go.

Everything changed when she met her CASA, Jen—someone who showed up, advocated for her, and became the first adult Alyssa could truly rely on. With Jen’s support, Alyssa found the belief and stability she needed to turn her life around. Today, she’s a college freshman studying Sociology, having graduated from high school and earned recognition for her essay on the foster youth-to-prison pipeline. Their bond remains strong, “best friends for life!” YOU can be a CASA.

This April, during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, our goal is to ensure that kids across Montana have a voice. CASA volunteers step into the gap for children who have experienced abuse or neglect, making sure judges and decision-makers see the full picture of a child’s life. Your support helps recruit and train more of these dedicated advocates across Montana.

Last year, CASA volunteers stood beside 1,636 Montana children who had experienced abuse or neglect—making sure their voices were heard when it mattered most. Kids like Vander and Micah, who found stability, encouragement, and a permanent home because someone chose to advocate for them. But too many children are still waiting. Give the gift of hope. ❤️💙

We’re thankful to the following publications for shining a light on CASA volunteers and the difference they make for kids in abuse and neglect cases.

When a CASA steps in, they focus on one child at a time, get to know their world, and bring clear, trusted information back to the judge so the child’s safety and stability stay front and center. In 2025, about 1,636 Montana children had a CASA by their side—but so many more are still waiting for someone to raise their hand and say, “I’ve got you.”
