This past something Sunday, May 3 something truly unique happened at the UMN Larson Football Performance Center. 110 scientists, dancers, and UMN Marching Band members came together to bodystorm on a scale we’ve never managed before. We’re still processing the images and videos, but here’s a teaser with more to come!

Reminiscing on “Rules of Life” which premiered in February. This collaboration with Odde and Provenzano Labs is over 15 years in the making.

Using the foundations of what we have learned in Bodystorming over the years, we explored what it is to be inside the violence of a cancer cell.

REGISTRATION IS LIVE AT THE LINK IN OUR BIO!!!

Come move in the classical modern world of the Jose Limón Technique and Repertory taught by current Limón company members Joey Columbus and Mariah Gravelin and then dive into the athletic and flying contemporary dance styles and Repertory of Carl Flink’s Black Label Movement. This 5 day workshop offers participants rigorous 8 hour days that will challenge and delight those looking to deepen their artistic and physical practice in the heart of Minneapolis, MN, one of the United States most dynamic dance communities. Through this residencies Carl Flink, a former member of the Limón Dance Company and Endorsed Limón Technique Expert Teaching Faculty member, seeks to facilitate participants discovering the intersections between the Limón Technique and his own choreographic exploration with Black Label Movement.

Today is the last day to so ‘Rules of Life’! Don’t miss your chance.

Black Label has been alerted that there are a number of events scheduled for Saturday within a few miles of the University of Minnesota’s West Bank, where the Barker Center for Dance is located and our Rules of Life performances will be held.

In talking with University police, they voiced not to be unduly alarmed. They expect the height of Saturday’s activities to be between 11am-12pm and do not anticipate the Barker Center to be impacted. It is recommended you use the I-94 and Riverside ramp to route yourself to the Barker Center, and park in the University of Minnesota lots adjacent or across the street.

Black Label will be in continued communication with UMPD to monitor anything that arises that could be a concern. If a safety concern does arise that could impact the location and a performance of Rules of Life, audiences will be notified immediately via email and Black Label’s social media.

When we are faced with challenges of fear, hate, and conflict, coming together in community and creativity can be healing and courageous all at once. We look forward to sharing Rules of Life with you this weekend.
