LRAP Minnesota Helping Minnesota public interest attorneys repay their student loans.

Loan Repayment Assistance Program of Minnesota (LRAP Minnesota) offers comprehensive student loan guidance and funding to legal aid attorneys throughout Minnesota–ensuring that dedicated public interest attorneys are here to serve the Minnesotans who need them most. LRAP Minnesota was founded in 1991 through the joint efforts of students at Minnesota’s law schools, the Minnesota Justice Foundation

, and the Minnesota State Bar Association. Current support from these collaborators–and the generosity of donors like you–means that 50 legal aid attorneys can serve 10,000 low-income clients each year.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness continues to be a lifeline for so many public interest attorneys and public service professionals — and right now, staying informed matters more than ever.

We’re proud to share this timely article on PSLF, co-written with Legal Aid - Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid's Heather Vlieger, whose longtime leadership and advocacy in public interest helped shape this important discussion.

The article highlights key developments, ongoing uncertainty surrounding PSLF, and why these protections remain critical for people committed to serving their communities.

If you work in legal aid, government, or other nonprofits, this is worth the read.

LRAP Minnesota joined other nonprofits around the country to submit a public comment on the proposed rule to amend the regulations on the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. PSLF forgives student loans once certain public service employees meet rigorous requirements.

Changes to PSLF would harm our organization and the recipients we serve. As we stated in the comment, "Legal aid attorneys rely on the promise of PSLF when they take and remain in relatively low-paying legal aid jobs. Without assurances that PSLF program rules will remain consistent over the long term, attorneys will be unable to risk pursuing legal aid careers."

Special thanks to Heather Vlieger of Mid Minnesota Legal Aid (and formerly of LRAP) for assisting us in this effort.
