St. Paul's founder, Pierre Parrant, builds the city's first structure, known as the whiskey seller's cabin, in Fountain Cave. Nicknamed "Pig's Eye" because one of his eyes was surrounded by a "white-ish ring," Parrant had been expelled from the Fort Snelling grounds for selling liquor. The name is also applied to the community when people begin having their mail sent to "Pig's Eye." At Father Lucien Galtier's suggestion, the town's name was changed to St. Paul on November 1, 1849.

Our National Religious Freedom Day Forum in January was a big success! See these video highlights of a day devoted to promoting separation of church and state. (Thank you to videographer Sage Rossman of the American Humanist Association.)

This is what humans do.

We show up. We care. We take action.

At our HumanistsMN Day of Empathy, our community came together to turn compassion into real impact: crafting tie blankets, assembling wellness kits, cleaning up our shared spaces, and organizing a clothing drive for those who need it most.

No grandstanding. No waiting. Just people stepping up for one another.

This is humanism in action, and it makes us proud.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time, energy, and heart to make this day possible, and thanks to AHA and American Empathy Project for kicking this off. πŸ’›
