Recovery Corps

Recovery Corps Recovery Corps was launched in Minnesota by Ampact as part of our healthy futures program offerings, and has since expanded to include Illinois.

Recovery Corps expands access to needed care and promotes the recovery of individuals working to overcome opioid addiction and other substance use disorders in Minnesota, Illinois, Kentucky, and Virginia. As a national organization, Ampact demonstrates the power of national service to solve complex social problems by creating innovative programs that focus on the key areas of education, environmental stewardship, and healthy futures for communities.

On this , we're shining the spotlight on Ryan! A former electrician, Ryan is serving his first term as a Recovery Navigator at Minnesota Recovery Connection. He was inspired to serve by a desire to give back to his community and to help others who could benefit from peer support.

A highlight of his service so far was helping a participant secure stable housing: "One of my participants has been living in transitional housing for over a year, and I was able to help him find his own apartment."

We're proud to see the incredible impact members like Ryan make every day. Thank you for serving!

Traci spent many years in the medical field, working as a hospital nurse, hospice care worker, and EMT. But after starting her recovery journey, she decided she needed a change in scenery. She moved to a recovery house in Martinsville, Virginia, and dedicated her time to her church, community, and health. During this time, she also got certified as a Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS)! Now, she's using her skills as a PRS to support others in her role as a Recovery Navigator.

"The greatest thing is serving others," Traci says. " The life that I used to be so ashamed of can now be turned into something that can give someone hope, courage, and strength."

Thank you for your dedication to serving your community, Traci!

Our Virginia team spent last Saturday at The Chris Atwood Foundation's HopeFest! An annual spring event, HopeFest brings together the Fairfax, Virgina, community together for a day of food and fun — with all proceeds going towards helping others access connection and peer support.

Since 2022, we've been proud to partner with The Chris Atwood Foundation in their mission to provide recovery support services, resources, and education.

Meet Michael! Growing up, he faced many obstacles and ultimately struggled with substance use disorder. Things began to turn around when he earned his forklift certification and began working as a driver. He also started volunteering at a shelter and at Twin Cities Recovery Project—where he is now serving his third term as a Recovery Navigator!

On his decision to join Recovery Corps, Michaels says, "I wanted to help other people like someone helped me." He enjoys being part of a positive recovery community and showing people that there are many paths to recovery.

We're proud to have you on the Recovery Corps team, Michael!

Today, we are shining the spotlight on Janel, a Recovery Navigator from Illinois! Janel is a doula as well as a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS), specializing in supporting women with substance use disorder. Before joining AmeriCorps, Janel had worked as a CRSS at a state hospital and at a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic.

Janel joined Recovery Corps for "the opportunity to be a part of something that can have a big impact on the communities that we serve." Since then, she's enjoyed working with others, learning their stories, and growing from the experience of serving her community.

Janel plans to use the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to help pay for her master's degree. We're proud to support amazing members like Janel on their professional journeys!

Meet Matthew, a Recovery Project Coordinator whose deep-rooted passion for community outreach led him to serve with Recovery Corps at Hennepin County Public Health. Now a second-year member, Matthew says he’s focused on cannabis-related projects—especially youth cannabis prevention.

Matthew’s role with Recovery Corps is a step towards his future goal of a career in public health, which he says, “Will be centered around working with many others to improve the health and well-being of our communities.” One of his favorite aspects of the program is the real, local impact his projects have on individuals who are in recovery.

We’re thankful for the work you do to address some of the most critical needs in our community, Matthew! Thank you for serving!
