Before serving with Recovery Corps, Bethann was working as a physical therapist. Now looking ahead towards another term of service, she’s working on earning her certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist and exploring career options as a counselor or social worker!

"I struggled to achieve sustained sobriety and could not have done it without the help I received from others,” Bethann says. “I wanted to be able to help people change their lives, sharing my experience, strength, and hope."

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Alysha! She is a mother of three and is currently in school to become a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She joined Recovery Corps to further her experience and education in the field and is now serving her fourth year as a Recovery Navigator.

Alysha says her long-term goal is to help expand recovery services and resources in Pierce County. "My desire is to continue to meet people in the uncomfortable places in their life, educate them, and assist them into a life meaningful for them individually," she says.

Abeer is a Recovery Project Coordinator serving with our first cohort in Kentucky! Outside of service with Recovery Corps, he acts as Co-Director of New Leaders Council Kentucky and hosts a monthly podcast for WUKY and NPR. Abeer describes himself as a lifelong learner with a passion for leadership development, public policy, and community empowerment.

This year at Voices of Hope, Abeer is making a difference in his community through volunteer training and mobilization, event coordination, and education outreach. “My favorite part of service is engaging members of the community and helping volunteers find meaning in their work,” he says.

We’re excited to see the incredible impact our Kentucky members will make. Thank you for choosing to serve, Abeer!

As many of our members prepare to wrap up their year of service, we’re proud to share that Recovery Corps provided more than 54,000 hours of support to local organizations — guiding over 1,500 individuals on their recovery journeys.

On this , we're shining the spotlight on Ryan! A former electrician, Ryan is serving his first term as a Recovery Navigator at Minnesota Recovery Connection. He was inspired to serve by a desire to give back to his community and to help others who could benefit from peer support.

A highlight of his service so far was helping a participant secure stable housing: "One of my participants has been living in transitional housing for over a year, and I was able to help him find his own apartment."

We're proud to see the incredible impact members like Ryan make every day. Thank you for serving!

Traci spent many years in the medical field, working as a hospital nurse, hospice care worker, and EMT. But after starting her recovery journey, she decided she needed a change in scenery. She moved to a recovery house in Martinsville, Virginia, and dedicated her time to her church, community, and health. During this time, she also got certified as a Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS)! Now, she's using her skills as a PRS to support others in her role as a Recovery Navigator.

"The greatest thing is serving others," Traci says. " The life that I used to be so ashamed of can now be turned into something that can give someone hope, courage, and strength."

Our Virginia team spent last Saturday at The Chris Atwood Foundation's HopeFest! An annual spring event, HopeFest brings together the Fairfax, Virgina, community together for a day of food and fun — with all proceeds going towards helping others access connection and peer support.

Since 2022, we've been proud to partner with The Chris Atwood Foundation in their mission to provide recovery support services, resources, and education.
