Mission Monday! This week, we're continuing to reflect on Hachnasat Orchim, the Jewish value of welcoming others. At Sholom, we believe that a strong community is built through kindness, connection, and making everyone feel like they belong. Whether it's a warm greeting, a thoughtful gesture, or simply taking time to connect, every act of hospitality makes a difference.

This week, we encourage you to reach out to someone and help them feel welcomed and valued!

💙 Sholom Celebrates National Physical Therapy Month! 💪

October is National Physical Therapy Month, and we're proud to recognize the incredible in-house Physical Therapy teams across Sholom who help our residents and patients move with greater confidence, regain strength, and maintain their independence!

At Sholom, physical therapy is about so much more than movement. It's about restoring confidence, promoting independence, and helping people continue doing the things they love.

From helping patients recover after surgery, illness, or injury to supporting residents with balance, mobility, strength, and fall prevention, our dedicated physical therapists and physical therapist assistants make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve every day.

Every step forward matters. Whether it's helping someone walk independently again, safely navigate their home, or regain the strength to participate in their favorite activities, our teams celebrate each milestone alongside the individuals and families they support.

👏 To our Physical Therapy teams: THANK YOU! Your expertise, encouragement, patience, and compassion empower our residents and patients to reach their goals and live life as fully and independently as possible.

We're grateful for the important role you play in bringing Sholom's mission of Care, Compassion, and Community to life every day.

Happy National Physical Therapy Month! 💙

✨ Sholom Proudly Welcomes Jesse Simon as our new Director of Community Relations!

We’re excited to welcome Jesse to a new role at Sholom dedicated to building relationships, strengthening community connections, and helping more people discover the programs, services, resources, and sense of belonging available throughout Sholom.

As Director of Community Relations, Jesse will connect with community organizations, professional partners, faith communities, civic leaders, referral partners, and others throughout the Twin Cities. Through outreach, events, education, partnerships, and meaningful engagement, he’ll help strengthen Sholom’s presence in the community and create new connections that support the people we serve and our continued growth.

For Jesse, joining Sholom has special meaning. Sholom has served multiple generations of his own family, and he says he was drawn to both our history and our future.

“I’m especially excited to help tell Sholom’s story and strengthen its connections throughout the community. I’m also looking forward to getting to know the people and families who are part of the Sholom community.”

A lifelong Minnesotan, Jesse brings a background in nonprofit community engagement, marketing, and communications. His years as a youth sports coach have also shaped how he leads: staying positive and purposeful, empowering people to succeed, and always putting the team first.

❤ And a fun fact about Jesse: He has donated blood 72 times since 2005 and has his sights set on 100 lifetime donations!

We’re so excited to have Jesse on the Sholom team and look forward to the relationships and connections he’ll build as we continue serving our community now and into the future.

Please help us give Jesse a warm Sholom welcome!

✨ Pearls of Wisdom ✨

This week at Roitenberg Family Assisted Living, resident Ashley shared the advice he'd give his younger self: keep working.

Ashley should know. He shared that he worked for the Navy Exchange until he was 75, and loved every year of it. His words are a reminder that finding work you enjoy can bring purpose and joy at every stage of life.

Thank you, Ashley, for sharing your wisdom with us!

Sholom Celebrates Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week!

Great food is about so much more than what's on the plate. It's about nourishment, comfort, connection, and creating moments that bring people together.

This week, we're celebrating the incredible members of our Culinary and Dining Services teams across Sholom! From our talented chefs and cooks to our dedicated dietary aides and the managers who lead and support these teams, each plays an essential role in making mealtimes a meaningful part of the day for our residents, patients, families, and guests.

At Sholom, we believe dining is an important part of quality of life. A delicious, thoughtfully prepared meal can bring comfort, spark conversation, honor traditions, and create a sense of home and belonging. Our teams work tirelessly, both in the kitchen and behind the scenes, to provide nutritious meals, accommodate individual dietary needs and preferences, and deliver a welcoming dining experience with care and compassion.

💙 To our entire Culinary and Dining Services team: THANK YOU! Thank you for your creativity, hard work, attention to detail, and the pride you take in serving others. Whether you're preparing a favorite recipe, serving a meal with a smile, or ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes, your work makes a difference every single day.

You are an essential ingredient in what makes Sholom such a special community, and we're grateful for all that you do!

Happy Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week!

Traditions and Transitions 🎻🎶

This week, we're shining the spotlight on the young musicians who filled Sholom Home West with music last week! Several youth orchestra musicians performed for our residents: Rayna Kaufman, River Muggli, Srinikethan Kandhadai Vijey, and Charlie Lasota. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us!

The performance was organized by Michael Vaynberg, founder and director of Bridging the Gap Foundation. Bridging the Gap Foundation is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to combating social isolation among elders in nursing homes and hospitals through meaningful intergenerational connection, volunteerism, and the power of the arts.

A heartfelt thank you to Michael Vaynberg and to each of these young musicians. Your music brought smiles, memories, and joy to our residents, and we are so grateful for your generosity and for the connections you build between generations. 💙
