🇹🇹 A Little Trinidad & Tobago Independence History

Trinidad and Tobago gained independence from Britain on August 31, 1962, becoming an independent nation after 165 years of British colonial rule.

🇹🇹 Dr. Eric Williams, widely known as the Father of the Nation, became the country’s first Prime Minister. His famous words, “The people of Trinidad and Tobago have chosen independence,” marked a defining moment in the nation’s history.

The national flag—red, black, and white—represents the vitality of the people, the strength and dedication of the nation, and the sea, earth, and equality of all people.

Today, Independence Day is a celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, unity, and national pride for Trinbagonians at home and around the world. ❤️🤍🖤🇹🇹

As many of you know, wildfire smoke & hazardous air quality dealt us a tough hand this season,
keeping nearly 1,000 of our family members at home. Running an independent festival for over
20 years is a labor of love, & a setback like this hits our festival family hard. It was not possible
to reschedule due to artists' touring schedules which are arranged months in advance.
