This , we’re spotlighting the new Cheaha State Park Lodge in Delta, Alabama — a transformative Mercer Mass Timber project that demonstrates how sustainable materials and regional design can work together to create a lasting environmental impact. 🌲🏔️
Currently under construction for the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR), the 26,000-square-foot, four-story lodge is perched above Alabama’s highest peak and designed to immerse visitors in the surrounding landscape through exposed natural materials, expansive views, and biophilic design principles.
Designed by Chambless King Architects, the project incorporates:
• 461 m³ of FSC-certified Southern Yellow Pine cross-laminated timber (CLT)
• 55 m³ of glulam
• A total of 516 m³ of mass timber products
As Alabama’s largest mass timber project to date, the lodge highlights the environmental benefits of low-carbon construction, including:
• 521 metric tons of CO2 stored in wood products
• 201 metric tons of avoided greenhouse gas emissions
• 722 metric tons of total potential carbon benefit
Built using products from Mercer Mass Timber, the project showcases how responsibly sourced FSC-certified materials can support innovative construction while strengthening the connection between people, forests, and the built environment.
