Its today, again. This day creeps in every December, slowly and quietly but with purpose. In the midst of a holiday associated with family coming together, its a stark reminder of who is absent. But its also sort of perfect timing. You see, Alex was the type to unify people, to want everyone all together. So to celebrate his birthday today is a reminder for me of all the people that he has brought to us, talented musicians, wonderful families, and kind humans in our community. This year Alex's reach brought us the biggest Skate Park Music Fest we have seen to date, new students, new accomplishments by our students, new instruments in the hands of those looking for music, new partnerships, and a little support to an adaptive music program to help make music accessible for all kids. We continue to lift others, just as he did. As much as his birthday is a reminder of who is missing at the table, its also a reminder of how much of an impact he has had, and continues to have, on others and the community.
Happy Birthday kid, I really miss you.
Your niece and nephew are so proud to be a part of your family, and just wish they had time to learn from you. Your absence is forever felt.
Thank you for giving us direction and motivation to keep going, and to keep doing the work to keep your message going.
