From August 4th through November 30, 2026, CT’s Community Action Agencies will be setting up appointments with residents to determine eligibility for a one-time $300 grocery card. Eligibility is limited to those who fall into the Able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) category and have lost their SNAP benefits due to the H.R. 1 work requirement changes.

An ABAWD is a person ages 18-64 who is physically and mentally able to work and does not live with a dependent child under age 14.

If you received a notice that your SNAP benefits ended due to H.R. 1 work requirements and believe you meet the ABAWD criteria, you may be eligible to receive the one-time grocery card.
Find and contact your local Community Action Agency to schedule an appointment and determine your eligibility here: https://www.cafca.org/agencies/

For those in towns served by New Opportunities, the Agency issuing your card is as follows:

Waterbury, Watertown, Middlebury, and Southbury: The Community Action Agency of Western CT: (203) 744-4700.

Wallingford, Cheshire, Prospect, and Naugatuck: Community Action Agency of New Haven: (203) 387-7700.

Torrington, Thomaston, Wolcott, Southington, and Berlin: HRA of New Britain: (860) 584-2725 and 860-225-1084.

A sweet CRT reunion for a past CRT Early Childhood Education participant and his beloved preschool teacher. Jonathan's mom contacted CRT and together they located Miss Marilyn to surprise him at his high school graduation celebration. Jonathan will be attending college in the fall studying computer technology. Jonathan really wanted to see his CRT preschool teacher again since she made such an impact. If you are looking for a quality preschool program CRT has openings. Go to https://www.crtct.org/programs/children/preschool-child-care/ 🍎
