On Thursday. 9/17/2026, Wadsworth Chapter had its first meeting of the year. State Regent Jolene Mullen joined us for an enjoyable evening. We welcomed four new members at the meeting. On display was the Wadsworth Charter from 1892, framed in wood from the Charter Oak. It was a good start to the year.

On September 12, 2026, as part of the ongoing America250 celebration, Wadsworth Chapter DAR placed a DAR marker on the grave of Philemon Freeman, an African American Revolutionary War patriot at the Old North Burying Gound in Middlefield, CT. Speakers were Regent Terry Latimer, Recording Secretary Ellen Halstedt, and CTDAR State Historian Sue Crombie.
In attendance were several members of the Wadsworth Chapter, members of the Middlefield Historical Society, and many community members.

Philemon Freeman Grave Marking Ceremony

Saturday September 12, 2026 at 11:00 am

Old North Burying Ground in Middlefield
Jackson Hill Road
Middlefield, CT

For 200 years after his death in 1820, Philemon Freeman
lay buried in an unmarked grave at the Old North Burying
Ground in Middlefield. In 2021 the Middlefield Historical
Society, the Middlefield Cemetery Association and a
Wadsworth Chapter member made his service known and
a veteran’s headstone for him was placed in the Old North
Burying Ground.
As part of the America 250! Celebrations, we would like to
honor this “Forgotten Patriot” and place a DAR marker by
his headstone. Please join members of the Wadsworth
DAR Chapter for this brief ceremony.
