President and CEO Meghan Scanlon, Vice President of Gov’t & Public Relations Liza Andrews, and Policy & Advocacy Manager Mario Volpe, were in Washington D.C for the The National Network to End Domestic Violence’s annual Federal Advocacy Days. With the federal appropriation and budget process ongoing, our staff went to Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and congressional staff to advocate for continued investment in critical services that serve survivors of domestic violence.

These conversations are an important part of ensuring that the voices of survivors are heard and reflected in legislation. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our mission and advocate for meaningful change.

This Juneteenth, we reflect on how safety, healing and justice for ALL survivors cannot be reached without recognizing how systemic barriers continue to impact Black communities in our work towards a world free from all forms of violence.

CCADV President and CEO Meghan Scanlon joined other advocates, first responders, and lawmakers for a press conference in recognition of PTSD Awareness Month. Speakers at the press conference hosted by the State Comptroller’s office shared experiences from their fields, called for expanded support, and the need to combat the stigma around post-traumatic stress disorder.

Together, we can ensure that survivors and their families living with PTSD know that they are seen, heard, and never alone.

CCADV was excited to host Dr. Cynthia Miller-Idriss from American University and Evan Allard, Director of the CT Intelligence Institute with CT Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection for an important discussion about the intersection between domestic violence and violent extremism. 60% of perpetrators of mass violence in the U.S. have a documented history of . It’s time to understand that strategies to prevent mass violence and harm have to include a focus on warning signs for interpersonal violence histories.

💜 CCADV held 15th Annual First 100 Plus Breakfast & Awards Ceremony on May 15th that recognized over 80+ individuals advancing safety and justice for survivors and their children as part of First 100 Plus Class of 2026. It was a powerful and moving morning that also featured survivor voices and was emceed by NBC Connecticut’s Taylor Regan. In addition to the honorees inducted into the Class of 2026, CCADV also celebrated:

✨ Connecticut Attorney General William Tong received the Coalition Crusader Award for his steadfast advocacy in defending critical funding for domestic violence services and championing immigrant rights.

✨ Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) was honored with the Lawrence & Shirley Bostrom Pillars of Change Award for its vital partnership supporting immigrant and undocumented survivors.

✨ New London Youth Affairs received the Partners in Prevention Award for collaborating with Safe Futures and local youth on Threads of Hope, a youth-led fashion show raising awareness about teen dating violence.

We are grateful to our community of changemakers, advocates, legislators, and supporters. Together, we move closer to a Connecticut free from domestic violence.

May 6th is the last day of the CT legislative session! The SJA lays out a clear process for survivors to seek sentencing relief. Not only will they need credible documentary proof that they are a survivor, but they must also prove to the court by clear and convincing evidence that their abuse was a significant contributing factor to the crime. Support HB 5306 and a fair, equitable sentencing framework for survivors! .
