It’s the last day of August, so we wanted to push something out. How about another member spotlight! Today, we give a highlight to Noah Wood.

Age: 28

Unit Number: 4594

Date Joined: 2021

Certifications: FF 1/2, Hazmat Awareness/Ops, Technical Rescue Awareness, EVOC, EMR, FOST

Why You Joined the Fire Service: “I wanted to give back to the community. I found a way to do that in being on the department and giving back through service.

Noah has been with us for a little while and has really taken firefighting to a new level. Noah came to us just wanting to try something new and it has really pushed him into this line of work. Noah now does this job as a career outside of volunteering for us. It’s a case of turning a dream into a passion for the job.

A big thanks to Bartronics, Inc. for always taking care of our department. Dual mobile radios with one being a dual head mobile for rear access to radio communications. It’s always a a pleasure to work with them. Big upgrades to our Assistant Chiefs vehicle!

A little spotlight recognition for our Fire Chief and Assistant Chief. Our department recognized a need for both of them to have take home vehicles. This expedites their arrival on emergency scenes. The quicker we get to calls, the quicker multiples things happens. For medical calls, quicker patient assessment, treatment, and information relayed to EMS on patient condition and priority. For motor vehicle crashes, quicker scene assessment, patient care, patient priority for potential helicopter requests for airlifting to trauma centers, and quicker extrication start times. For fire scenes, quicker scene assessment, quicker requests for possible mutual aid, especially tanker requests for areas without hydrants, and quicker strategies and tactics planned for scene stabilization.

With that all being said, they chose to not put the department at a financial burden when it comes to fuel. They both use their own money to fill up their tanks with gas. This is very rare to find, as most just charge it to their department or their municipality. Just one of the many ways our administration looks out for the livelihood of the department and the community.

Earlier today, our department was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash. While responding, dispatch advised that Laporte county units were on scene with a rollover and there was entrapment. Upon arrival, we had a two vehicle crash with one vehicle on its side. Michigan City Fire was also on scene and began extrication. Crews worked on scene for less than an hour. Chief 4501, Assistant Chief 4502, Engine 4510, Squad 4550, and Brush 4573 responded. Good work by all agencies involved!

**EVENING OF DAY 9**

It has been 9 days since the storms steam rolled through our area. Tonight though, we are thankful. We have our power restored at our station. This picture truly says it all. It’s says that order has been restored for us and we can go back to normal operations. A sigh of relief is also here as well, a site that we are moving forward. We thank all of the different companies involved in the power restoration efforts across Northwest Indiana.
