Sometimes, just 10 minutes can make a difference.

Dr. Anna Chacon recently participated in the Back to School Health & Safety Fair in Miami, providing focused skin health screenings as part of a community outreach initiative.

We're grateful to the African American Health Coalition and everyone who helped make this event possible. By bringing healthcare directly into the community, we can encourage early skin evaluations, increase awareness, and help connect people with the care they need.

Recognition is an honor.

Purpose is a responsibility.

Dr. Anna Chacon has been recognized as America's Dermatologist, but the work that continues to define her career happens far from conference stages and award announcements.

Through her ongoing work with the Indian Health Service in Alaska and collaborations with Indigenous communities, including the Navajo Nation, she continues to advocate for equitable access to dermatologic care where specialty services may be limited.

Each patient encounter reinforces an important lesson: improving health outcomes begins with listening, building trust, and meeting communities where they are.

At Indigenous Dermatology, our mission remains the same, to advance equitable, culturally respectful dermatologic care and help ensure that geography is never a barrier to healthy skin.

Exciting news! 🗽

Dr. Anna Chacon will be attending the AAD Innovation Academy 2026 in New York City from July 16–19.

This meeting brings together dermatology professionals to learn about emerging treatments, innovative technologies, skin cancer advances, and the future of patient care.

At Indigenous Dermatology, we believe ongoing education helps us provide better care and stronger advocacy for Indigenous and underserved communities.

🌿 Could a berry help support healthier skin?

A 2026 systematic review examined Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides), a nutrient-rich plant being studied for its anti-inflammatory and skin-repairing properties.

Researchers found that compounds found in Sea Buckthorn may help reduce inflammation, support the skin barrier, and regulate immune responses involved in inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea.

The findings are promising, but there is an important caveat.

Most of the current evidence comes from laboratory and preclinical studies. More clinical research is needed before conclusions can be made about its effectiveness in treating rosacea.

At Indigenous Dermatology, we are passionate about sharing evidence-based research while recognizing the long history of plant-based healing traditions across many cultures and communities.

The future of dermatology is not only about discovering new treatments, it is also about understanding how nature and science may work together.

From June 29 through July 3, I’ll be returning to Southeast Alaska with PeaceHealth to continue serving rural and Indigenous communities through Indigenous Dermatology.

As the first dermatologist serving Alaska’s Bush region, this work continues to remind me why access to dermatologic care matters so deeply, no matter how remote the community may be.

From traveling by bush plane to expanding teledermatology access, our mission remains the same:

Bringing culturally sensitive skin care to underserved communities.

Vitiligo affects every patient differently, and treatment goals can vary significantly depending on the extent and progression of the condition.

For patients with advanced, widespread vitiligo, Monobenzone may sometimes be considered to help create a more uniform skin tone by gradually depigmenting unaffected areas of the skin.

This treatment requires careful medical supervision, individualized planning, and ongoing monitoring to ensure the safest possible outcome.

As one of the few dermatologists offering Monobenzone treatment and monitoring for advanced vitiligo, I continue working to expand access to personalized vitiligo care through both in-person and teledermatology services nationwide.
