Melanated skin can get skin cancer too, and itโ€™s often caught too late.

Skin cancer doesnโ€™t always appear where you expect, especially in Indigenous and darker skin tones.

Because of delayed diagnosis, outcomes are often worse in communities of color, but early detection can save lives.

At Indigenous Dermatology, we advocate for awareness, access, and culturally inclusive care especially in underserved and remote communities like Alaska.

AI is changing dermatology, but not always equally.

A 2026 study found that artificial intelligence can detect skin cancer with up to 93% accuracy.
But thereโ€™s a critical gap.

Many of these systems are trained on datasets that donโ€™t fully represent melanated skin. That means skin cancer in darker skin tones may still be missed or diagnosed later.

And early detection?
It can save lives.

At Indigenous Dermatology, we believe innovation must be inclusive, representative, and equitable, especially for underserved and Indigenous communities.

Because technology should never leave anyone behind.

Did you know that artificial intelligence is now being used to detect skin cancer?

A recent 2026 study found that AI can reach up to 93% accuracy. This is a huge step forward for early detection and treatment.

But thereโ€™s something important we need to talk about.

Many of these systems are not trained on enough diverse skin tones. This means that people with melanated skin may still face delays in diagnosis.

At Indigenous Dermatology, we believe that healthcare innovation should be inclusive and accessible to everyone no matter their skin tone or where they live.

This is especially important for Indigenous communities and those in remote areas.

Not all skin conditions are diagnosed equally and Indigenous communities are often left behind.

From eczema and keloids to infections and vitiligo, skin conditions in melanated skin are frequently misunderstood or overlooked.

๐Ÿšจ In remote Indigenous communities, the challenge goes even deeper, limited access to specialists, long travel distances, and a lack of culturally informed care create real barriers to treatment.

At Indigenous Dermatology, we believe skincare Itโ€™s about equity, representation, and respect.

Can AI diagnose rosacea? ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ”

New research suggests AI may help recognize rosacea and other skin conditions, but itโ€™s not perfect.

Some AI tools showed promise, while others frequently misdiagnosed cases, especially when symptoms overlapped with other skin concerns. Researchers also raised concerns about:

- Skin tone bias
- Privacy
- Inaccessible medical language
- Lack of transparency in AI training

Technology can support healthcare, but expert physicians and equitable care remain essential.

At Indigenous Dermatology, we believe innovation should improve care for everyone.
