Last week, our team member Jo shared a simple truth:

Refugees don't need pity. They need opportunity.

Manuela understands that deeply.

"We have opportunities, we have help, and we have the will to move forwards."

Like so many refugees we serve, Manuela isn't asking someone else to build her future. She's doing that herself.

What organizations like Refugee Assistance Alliance provide are the things that make growth possible: English classes, education, encouragement, practical support, and people who believe in you.

Because opportunity changes lives.

💛 Refugees don't want handouts. They want the chance to contribute, belong, and succeed.

You can help us help people like Manuela - with a gift to our $50k in 50 days campaign. Link in bio.

Yesterday we shared the story of a refugee woman who learned to drive, attended college, earned a healthcare certification, and began contributing financially to her family for the first time.

That transformation didn't happen by chance.

As Jo explains, survival jobs rarely lead to careers. But when refugees gain English skills, certifications, and workforce training, new opportunities become possible.

Opportunity changes everything.

This is why Refugee Assistance Alliance invests in education, workforce advancement, and long-term economic mobility for refugee families rebuilding their lives in South Florida.

🎯 Help us reach our goal of $50,000 in 50 Days and create more stories like hers.

Some stories need to be heard 💛

Stories of Strength was created to bring to life the real experiences refugees and community members share with us every day—through animation.

“In my country, women stayed at home. RAA taught me to drive. Driving meant freedom for me. Now I drive to college. I study. I work. I never earned money to support my family before, and it makes me so happy to help.”

For many refugees, opportunities that may seem small can become the first step toward something much bigger.
RAA helped her learn to drive. Then we supported her at college. Then came work, independence, and the ability to support her family.

Your support helps refugees study, work and support their families. Your support is not handouts, but opportunities that help people build their own futures.

No two refugee journeys are the same.

When looking at access to higher education, the contrast between refugees and the rest of the world is stark: only 9% refugees have access to tertiary education compared to the global average of over 40%.

A few refugees arrive with certifications and professional experience, but need help adapting those skills and qualifications for the U.S. workforce. Others need English classes, a GED, skills training and financial support before they can take the next step.

That's why Refugee Assistance Alliance doesn't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.

We meet refugees where they are, build individualized plans, and provide the support they need to move toward long-term self-sufficiency.

Gaining stable employment is more important now than ever. As healthcare coverage ends for many refugee families this October, those unable to secure stable employment risk being pushed back into crisis. Education and vocational training to create career pathways are crucial to long-term stability.

Because lasting change happens when people are given the right support at the right time.

Help us raise $50,000 in 50 days to ensure refugee families continue to have access to the education, skills training, and support they need to build new futures.

“I need your help. Is there any way I can go back?”

An Afghan refugee asked this question over two years after arriving in the United States.

Not because he wanted to return to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

Because he couldn't speak English.

He couldn't find work. He couldn't get a driver's license. He felt isolated, dependent, unable to build a life here - and afraid.

Refugees arrive with extraordinary resilience, but rebuilding a future requires English, education, qualifications, transportation, and pathways into stable employment.

Refugees already earn significantly less than U.S.-born workers. As healthcare coverage ends for many refugee families this October, those unable to secure stable employment risk being pushed back into crisis.

That's why Refugee Assistance Alliance exists.

We help refugees learn English, gain qualifications, develop vocational skills, and start build independent futures.

Every English class, certification, driver's license, and job opportunity opens another door.

Help us raise $50,000 in 50 days to help refugee families change their futures.

Dieufort arrived in the United States from Haiti carrying the single same hope many refugees bring with them: safety.

Like most, his journey has not been easy. Learning English while struggling to make ends meet day to day requires extraordinary perseverance. Without English, he can't train for a skilled job. As healthcare coverage is removed from refugee populations in October, accessing skilled work is even more important.

But he is thankful.

"First of all, I would like to thank you, because I can speak English thanks to you. You helped me get it. With your help, I will keep studying so my dreams can come true. Refugee Assistance Alliance made me believe I could choose my future again."

This is why our 50K in 50 Days campaign matters.

Every donation helps refugees access English classes, education, workforce training, and the support needed to pursue jobs that offer stable incomes, benefits, and opportunities for growth.

Join us as we work to raise $50,000 in 50 Days - by World Refugee Day- and help more refugee families leave crisis behind them and build futures filled with possibility.

When the bombs started falling on Iran, the first person to reach out to our board member, a former refugee from Iran, was a fellow board member from Israel.

A reminder that humanity is bigger than politics, borders, or conflict.

"Sometimes what we need most is to see each other as people, sharing the same hopes for safety, dignity and opportunity. I am proud to be part of RAA, an organization that welcomes all— under the umbrella of humanity."

This Memorial Day, we’re sharing the words of an Afghan refugee reflecting on the U.S. soldiers she encountered during her refugee journey.

“I appreciate all the armies, the U.S. armies… I won’t forget them. I even appreciate their families, who send their sons and daughters to serve other people.”

After fleeing conflict and uncertainty, she remembers acts of kindness, protection, and humanity shown to her during one of the most difficult periods of her life.

At one point, she gave her own blanket to a soldier standing guard in the cold.

“That was the best part of my journey — seeing them serve people, seeing them help people.”

Today, we remember all those who served, and reflect on the lives forever shaped by conflict, displacement, sacrifice, and service.
