There is a reflex running underneath most of our relationships, and it is faster than we realize. Before we even form a conscious thought, part of our brain is already asking where we rank. Above someone. Below someone. Safe or threatened.

Left unattended, this reflex feeds enemy mode. It is what turns a disagreement into a fight for who is right, or a quiet meeting into a silent contest over who gets heard.

"Parenting teens means letting go of control in ways that feel almost impossible. Barbara Moon wrote a piece for us this month about trusting instead of hovering, and one story from it has stuck with us all week: a mom who stopped nagging her almost-grown son about chores, and watched him choose to help on his own.

She did not tell him what his part was. She just let it be his to figure out. And it worked, not perfectly, but good things came.

Quiet yourself. Invite God's presence into the moment. Notice one thing that feels good right now, however small. Then share that good thing with Him, and let yourself actually feel it together.
