Remembering James “Jay” V. Weatherington
The Memphis Builders Exchange extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of James “Jay” V. Weatherington.
Born in Memphis on September 19, 1937, Jay dedicated much of his life to his family, his community, and the electrical and commercial construction industry throughout Memphis and the Mid-South.
In 1958, Jay began his lifelong professional journey with A-C Electric Company, dedicating 68 years to building and leading the company. A-C was more than a business to Jay—it was a source of pride and a family of people he cared deeply about. He also owned Summerall Electric Company, A-C's sister company.
A respected Master Electrician, Jay's knowledge, leadership, and commitment to the industry earned him the respect of generations of electricians, contractors, employees, and community leaders.
Jay also made a lasting impact through his service to the construction community. He was instrumental in establishing the West Tennessee Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors and later served as President and Trustee of the Memphis Builders Exchange. He served multiple terms on the Memphis and Shelby County Electrical Code Board, including as chairman, and contributed his expertise to several community and state boards and committees.
In 2010, the Shelby County Commission formally recognized Jay for his contributions to Associated Builders and Contractors and the commercial construction industry.
While his professional accomplishments were many, Jay's greatest legacy was undoubtedly his family. He shared nearly 72 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia Charlene Weatherington, and leaves behind a daughter, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His family knew the strong and commanding man others saw, but they also knew the gentle, generous, humorous, and deeply loving man beneath it all.
Jay lived a full life—one defined by hard work, family, friendships, service, and a love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, farmer, and golfer, embracing life and adventure along the way.
The Memphis Builders Exchange is grateful for Jay Weatherington's many years of service, leadership, and contributions to the construction industry and to our organization. His impact will continue to be felt through the people, businesses, and generations he helped shape.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Weatherington family during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
