What does it really cost to live on your own? Our Junior and Senior Memphis Challenge students recently found out during our Money Moves workshop—and the answers sparked some eye-opening conversations.

Students worked through real-world budgeting scenarios, factoring in housing, transportation, utilities, and more. While many joked about opting out of adulting altogether, the experience gave them a clearer understanding of financial responsibility and independence.

A special thank you to Alice Waller, Senior Consultant at Waller & Associates, for guiding students through her interactive Financial Fitness Bootcamp and equipping them with practical strategies to navigate their financial futures with confidence.

Budgeting, bills, and big decisions 💸

Our Junior and Senior Memphis Challenge students got a real-world crash course during our recent Money Moves workshop. From rent and utilities to car payments and groceries, students worked through what it actually costs to live in today’s economy. Let’s just say a few of them seriously reconsidered their timeline for “adulting” after having to pay rent, car note, and MLGW back to back😅

The Memphis Challenge is excited to be one of several amazing organizations represented at the 2026 Memphis Parent Camp Expo presented by YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South— happening today from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM!

We’ll be sharing more about S.O.L.E. Math, our engaging 8 week academic program designed to strengthen students’ math skills, build confidence, and prepare them for success in high school and beyond.

This FREE event is a great opportunity for families to explore summer programs and enrichment options for students of all ages. If you’re looking for ways to keep your student sharp, supported, and ahead of the curve, come see us.

Throwing it back to last Thursday when the Memphis Challenge team visited Hollis F. Price Middle College High School!

We joined several amazing community partners to share upcoming opportunities for students in grades 9–12 focused on leadership, enrichment, and college readiness.

It's always exciting to meet students right where they are and remind them they have real opportunities to build their resumes and prepare for the future through programs like Memphis Challenge. After the presentation, we connected with students one-on-one and shared details about registering for the 2026–2027 school year.

Happy 100th Birthday, Black History Month!

In 1926, historian and educator Carter G. Woodson launched what was then called Negro History Week — a radical act rooted in a simple belief: denying people their history denies them their humanity.

As the son of formerly enslaved parents and the second African American to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard University, following W. E. B. Du Bois, Woodson understood that history is fuel for pride, possibility, and progress.

He chose February to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, linking remembrance to freedom and forward movement. What began as one week has grown into a global celebration of Black life, brilliance, and legacy.

As we celebrate 100 years, we’re sharing facts, stories, and moments that remind our scholars: you are part of a history that is still being written.

And joy is part of that legacy.
