EAA Chapter 734

EAA Chapter 734 EAA Chapter 734 meets at 2:00 p.m. CT on the first Sunday of every month at Carroll County Airport (KHZD) on Highway 22 between McKenzie and Huntingdon, TN.

Whether you fly, build, restore or simply enjoy airplanes and aviation, you are welcome to attend our events and join our chapter. We are a group of aviation enthusiasts, aircraft builders, and pilots who get together with like minded people to share ideas, exchange information, encourage safety, serve the local aviation community and have a lot of fun doing so.

Pizza
EAA Chapter 734 gathering Sunday, April 12, 2pm at Carroll County Airport. We are going to have pizza. Join us for some food and some aviation stories.

Dale likes pizza but that is him in the picture flying by Mt. Rainier in Washington State. He has more of the project to do in Washington before he heads to Alaska. He has also been promoted to Lead Pilot. I guess I would give up a slice of pizza to fly by an active volcano.

Kevin commonly known as Crash would probably eat some pizza but he has joined the Marines. He says he will be flying within two years.

Mississippi Maddie would also like some pizza but she is off at collage. She finished her Commercial in January. She is almost done with Multi Engine. And should be starting CFI classes any time.

So everyone else has to take up the slack and eat more pizza.

An all girl troop of Scouting America asked for a little help with their Aviation Merit Badge last month. I didn’t get many pictures but we had a good time. We let their brothers from boys troops join them, just in case your are wondering how some boys wound up in some pictures. In total 20 kids learned something about aviation and many flew for the first time.

No Young Eagles March 29.
EAA Chapter 734 does NOT have an event Sunday, March 29.
It was a standby date for the scouts and they finished there Aviation Merit Badge work earlier this month. We flew the all-girl-troop along with some of there male siblings for a total of 20. I have a couple of pictures that I hope I post soon.
Also, our next chapter gathering/meeting will be April 12 instead of the first Sunday since the first Sunday in April is Easter Sunday.

EAA Chapter 734 Gathering/Meeting this Sunday, March 1

The ice from last month has melted and it is time for the March 1 gathering/meeting of EAA Chapter 734. It will be at 2pm at the Carroll County Airport.
The weather is expected to be about 60 degrees, cloudy, with some wind down the runway. This is much better than the solid, slick ice coating on February 1.

Ice covered the runway, ramp, and the car parking lot. It was extremely slick.
The runway was open for the brave.

Bring a good story and bring a friend.
The ice is long gone.

EAA Chapter 734 Meeting for February 1 CANCELED

Sunday’s EAA Chapter 734 Meeting is CANCELED.
There is still ice covering all minor roads around here. We don’t have anything that can’t wait until next month. The next Sunday is Puppy Bowl/Super Bowl day and lots of people will want to be home for one or the other so postponing a week just didn’t seem worth it.

See you March 1 for a hopefully warmer EAA Gathering.

Wyatt Soloed last month. I am measuring his arm to see if it got bigger pulling the landing gear lever 96 time to solo the retractable gear Mooney. He soloed in 14 hours on his “to Solo” scholarship. He even got in some night flying and some cross country time on the remaining scholarship money.
The best part of the solo day story was that his dad was watching with binoculars to see if the gear was down on his first solo landing.
We did cut up his shirt at the EAA gathering. We cut so fast that he almost got a hole through both shirts and his jacket. We did take pictures. I just never got those pictures but measuring the arm is better since most people don’t solo retractable gear airplanes.

Homemade Ice Cream at EAA Chapter 734 Gathering/Meeting this Sunday, September 7, 2pm, at Carroll County Airport.

The last homemade ice cream of the summer, so fly or drive in and bring a good aviation story.

Hopefully someone will tell about fly-ins at Dickson October 4 and a grass strip by the river September 13. We hope to finally get to see Todd’s freshly completed Velocity. The weather should be great for him to fly in. Several people should be about ready for check rides. Craig just passed his CFI check ride. There should be plenty to keep one busy while the ice cream freezes.
