Walking a mile in her shoes

The annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event took place Saturday afternoon, beginning at the Marshall County Courthouse Square. It assembled men, women and children of all backgrounds, who walked a mile through downtown Marshalltown — with the males donning high heeled shoes — as a way of standing in solidarity with those affected by sexual assault. The event was coordinated by Sheriff’s Deputy D.L. Dean, center left, who wore black and red knee-high boots. New this year was the inclusion of a White Ribbon Campaign ceremony, which allowed men to take a pledge to help end sexually-based crimes. The event was sponsored by the FARST Foundation (Friends Actively Recreating to Support Transformation), the Full Tilt Riders Motorcycle Club of Central Iowa, and the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity (Eta Rho Sigma chapter). Money raised will be given to ACCESS (Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support).
