Following Jesus was never meant to be a solo journey.

We need brothers and sisters who will pray with us, challenge us, encourage us, remind us of truth, and help us see what we cannot see on our own.

Especially in ministry, isolation can feel easier than vulnerability. But formation rarely happens in isolation.

So this week, reach out.

Call the friend you trust.

Ask someone to pray with you.

Tell the truth about how you’re doing.

Invite someone else into the places you’ve been trying to carry alone.

God often forms us through the people He places around us.

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…” — Hebrews 10:24–25

For our students answering the call to study at Wesley Seminary: we see you.

We know seminary is rarely the only thing on your plate.

Many of you are preaching, leading, caring for people, raising families, working full-time, completing assignments, and trying to remain attentive to what God is doing in your own soul along the way.

We are praying for you as you sacrificially serve and faithfully prepare.

May God give you wisdom when the reading is heavy, endurance when the days are long, grace for the people entrusted to your care, and renewed confidence in the calling that brought you here.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

Your formation matters.

Your ministry matters.

And the work God is doing in you matters too.

If you’ve visited Williams Prayer Chapel on the IWU-Marion campus, you may have seen this piece near the altar and wondered about its meaning.

The Sufferer depicts Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, holding the cup He asked the Father to take from Him.

It is a striking image of Christ not distant from suffering, but fully entering into it.

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” — Luke 22:42

For pastors, leaders, students, and anyone carrying a heavy burden: Jesus knows what it is to feel sorrow, anguish, and surrender.

Holiness is not the absence of struggle.

It is faithfulness to God in the midst of it.

You don’t have to carry everything.

Ministry will always give you more needs than you can meet.

Before you produce, listen.
Before you solve, pray.
Before you pour out, remain.

You are not only a leader God uses.

You are a child God treasures.

“Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

At a recent Wesley Seminary faculty and staff retreat, we stepped away from the routines of the semester to reflect on our mission:
Preparing Christian leaders to engage in missional ministry locally and globally.

Together, we worshiped, prayed for our students, and asked how we can better serve, equip, and prepare them for the ministries to which God has called them. Faculty and staff also shared about the community we have found at Wesley Seminary, and how, for many, this team has come to feel like family.

Rich Wollen concluded his message with this historic prayer, the Collect for Purity, a fitting reminder that the work of preparing Christian leaders begins with allowing God to shape our own hearts.

May we perfectly love Him, faithfully serve His Church, and continue preparing leaders for wherever God sends them.

Verse of the Year 2026-27 || Mark 12:30-31

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

At IWU, changing the world starts with loving God and loving neighbors.

Our prayer is that the entire Indiana Wesleyan University community would honor Christ and serve others through their scholarship, leadership, and character in this new academic year.

We were grateful to gather as the entire IWU community, including IWU-Marion, IWU Online, and Wesley Seminary leadership, faculty, and staff, to begin a new academic year together.
