One of the most common areas of confusion (understandably!) for donors and fund holders is how to use IRAs and other retirement accounts to further charitable goals. And it’s an important topic because Americans who’ve been in the workforce for a few decades have watched their 401(k)s, IRAs, and other retirement accounts grow nicely! Retirement accounts are a major asset on many families’ balance sheets.

At the Community Foundation of Grant County, we understand how tricky it can be to keep track of all the rules. We’re here to work alongside you and your tax and estate planning advisors to help you develop a charitable giving plan that achieves your goals, including ways to use your retirement assets to Give To Grant.

As year-end approaches, here are five important things to know!

Happy National DONUT Day!

3 ways to celebrate:

1. Go on a donut hop: Visit several donut shops and bakeries, trying a unique flavor at each one.

2. Make homemade donuts: Try a classic recipe or experiment with a fun, new flavor.

3. Host a Donut Decorating Party: Buy plain donuts and gather friends to decorate with glazes, sprinkles and candy.

🌳 What do you want your generosity to say about you 50 years from now?

An estate gift can provide for the people you love and create a lasting charitable legacy for the community and causes that matter to you.

You might include a charitable organization or fund in your will or trust, or name it as a beneficiary of certain accounts or assets.

And your legacy doesn’t have to begin with millions of dollars. What matters is deciding what you care about and making a plan for it.

Take care of the people you love. Remember the causes you love. Leave instructions for both. πŸ’™

We’d be happy to talk with you and your professional advisor about your charitable wishes.
