She's a 12 month old Dachshund mix and she's lived at the rescue for most of her life.
Her sister, Bonnie, got a foster last week and is doing Amazing in the home. ❤
🐾 July is around 20-25 lbs, she is kid friendly, dog friendly, and will be fine in a home with cats.

🐾 Calling all little-dog lovers—meet Bonnie! 🐾

Bonnie is a one-year-old, 25–30-pound Dachshund mix who is housebroken, crate-trained, great on leash, and has good recall. She gets along with cats, dogs, and children, though she can be startled by quick movements and excitement.

Once comfortable, Bonnie loves toys, cuddles, kisses, and sleeping under the covers. 💛

💔 Fancy doesn’t know what she did wrong. She only knows her family is gone.

She needs to get back into a home, even a temporary one. 🙏

Adopted from Rusty’s Legacy as a little puppy in 2024, Fancy grew up with a mom, a dad, and three children. Their home was her home. They were her whole world.

Last week, she was returned. Not because she is aggressive, not because the family has had a catastrophic event and can no longer care for her. She was returned to live in a kennel, at our outdoor rescue, because she eats socks and other items left on the floor.

Now this sweet girl is in a kennel, sad and confused. She doesn’t understand why everything familiar has disappeared. She doesn't know where her family is. It's heartbreaking to watch her heart break.

She needs someone willing to pick up their socks and other items off the floor and out of reach, help her with that habit, or prevent it from happening, and give her patience, kindness and reassurance she deserves.

❤️ We urgently need a foster or foster-to-adopt home for Fancy. She grew up as a family dog, and we want her back in a home where she can feel safe and loved.

💲💲💲 It’s $5 Friday. Please give $5 to help Dorothy heal.

💔 Dorothy’s spay incision was still open and infected TWO MONTHS after surgery. She's also been living with an untreated urinary tract infection. Little Dorothy is only about 12 month old. She's been through so much already. 😢

Five months ago, Dorothy was found abandoned in a parking lot. She was just a baby, left alone to starve and suffer in the heat.

Our rescue was over capacity with a waiting list, so the woman who found her arranged temporary care with a friend until we had room. We believed Dorothy was safe and being cared for.

We were wrong.

When she finally came to Rusty’s Legacy this week, we discovered her open, infected incision and an untreated urinary tract infection. We learned that her temporary caregiver had been physically unable to meet her needs. Her suffering had gone unnoticed.

We can’t imagine how much pain this little dog has endured. 😢

Jeri took Dorothy to our vet immediately. She is now receiving treatment, food, and attentive care. She is finally safe.

Sadie is 11 months old. She's in foster with one of our incredible trainers at Active Dogs of Asheville LLC
She's a Belgian Malinois/German shepherd mix and she's amazing!
Professionally trained, loves other dogs, very smart, really playful, very friendly with everyone.

FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT NEEDED
💔 Jack is becoming afraid to leave the kennel we’re trying so hard to get him out of.

At only about 1½ years old, Jack has spent seven months at Rusty’s Legacy. Dumped as a puppy near Lake James, he has never known a real home, a family of his own, or a soft dog bed.

Now this big, sweet, goofy puppy is starting to shut down. His 10×10 kennel has become his whole world—and he’s becoming afraid to step outside it.

Jack needs a foster or foster-to-adopt home before that world gets any smaller.

We know the loving boy who’s still in there. He's dog friendly, likes to play ball, and he loves everyone.

He's not asking for much. Just someone’s time. Someone’s affection. A chance to be somebody’s dog.

🐾 Jack is dog friendly, sweet, silly, and full of love. Older children would likely be his best fit because he’s a big lug who hasn’t quite figured out how big he is. He needs a patient person who will give him time to settle in, build confidence, and learn about life in a home.

You don’t have to promise him forever to make a difference. A temporary home could help him take his first steps toward one. And if you’re considering adoption, ask us about fostering to adopt.

Jack deserves more than growing up—and growing old—in a kennel.
