The Honor Flight Network is a nation-wide network dedicated to providing all veterans who apply a free trip to Washington D.C. to visit memorials honoring their service and sacrifice. ๐Ÿ“ฌ The wait is getting a little shorter!

Flight 17 packets are arriving in mailboxes across Southern Illinois, which means the countdown to Washington, D.C. is officially underway.

This September, 87 veterans will make the journey of a lifetime. Among them is our oldest veteran, a 96-year-old Korean War veteran, along with five brothers who will share this experience together as part of the same Honor Flight.

For many veterans, receiving that packet is the moment everything becomes real. The anticipation starts to build, the plans begin to take shape, and the journey they've earned is finally within sight.

We can't wait to welcome these veterans aboard Flight 17 on September 14th and create another unforgettable day of honor, remembrance, and camaraderie.

Some people leave a mark on an organization.

Calvin became part of its heart.

When Calvin returned from his Honor Flight, his journey didn't end. In many ways, it was just beginning. He kept showing up. Welcome Home after Welcome Home. Flight after Flight. Not because anyone asked him to. Not because he had to. Because he genuinely loved being there for other veterans.

If you knew Calvin, you had a friend.

He never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, make them smile, and somehow leave them feeling a little better than before. Whether he was greeting veterans at the airport, sharing stories at a memorial, playing Taps, or standing among the crowd welcoming heroes home, Calvin had a way of making people feel seen.

Even when his health made things difficult, he still found a way to be there whenever he could. We remember one Welcome Home where he came after being hospitalized because he didn't want to miss the chance to welcome fellow veterans home. That's who Calvin was.

His service to our country mattered.

But so did the way he served others long after he came home.

Tomorrow, as family and friends gather to celebrate his life, we simply want to say thank you.

Thank you for your friendship.
Thank you for your laughter.
Thank you for your encouragement.
Thank you for your example.

Most of all, thank you for showing us what it means to never stop caring for others.

You will always be part of the Veterans Honor Flight family, Calvin.

We will miss you deeply.

As we celebrate Flag Day and the 251st Birthday of the United States Army, we're reminded of the incredible veterans we've been honored to serve through Veterans Honor Flight.

We've shared laughs, stories, memories, and unforgettable moments with Army veterans who helped protect the freedoms represented by the stars and stripes.

Today, we celebrate the flag they served under, the Army they proudly represented, and the lasting impact they've made on our nation.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Some of the most meaningful moments from our Welcome Home Celebration happen because of people working behind the scenes.

A huge thank you to IBEW Local 702 for donating the lighting that illuminated our Freedom Path during Mission 16's Welcome Home Celebration.

As our veterans made their way through the crowd of cheering family members, friends, and supporters, those lights helped create a beautiful path home, one filled with gratitude, pride, and appreciation.

It's difficult to put into words what that moment feels like. The smiles, the tears, the hugs, and the overwhelming support from our community all come together to remind our veterans that their service has not been forgotten.

Some support happens behind the scenes. Some support happens with an apron on and a grill running.

Thank you to HCSC Blue Cross Blue Shield for providing and preparing food for the VIP area during our Mission 16 Welcome Home Celebration.

While our veterans were being welcomed home by thousands of supporters, the HCSC team was hard at work helping ensure volunteers, guests, and special attendees were cared for throughout the evening. It takes an incredible amount of effort to make an event of this size successful, and contributions like theirs make a real difference.

We are grateful for organizations that don't just support our mission, they actively invest their time, energy, and resources into honoring our veterans and strengthening our community.

Through their pork steak dinners and fish fry fundraisers, they raised an incredible $7,715 to support Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois.

Now thatโ€™s not just a donation number guys... thatโ€™s veterans getting the opportunity to stand at memorials built in honor of their service, reconnect with memories, share stories, and experience the appreciation they deserve!!
