An ancient African proverb states - "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." On Wednesday evening, Scouts from Pack 20, Pack 27, Troop 200 and Venture Crew 2000 (and a couple of Girl Scouts, too!) proved this theory. These wonderful young people range in age from 5 to 16 and, in many cases, had not met before Wednesday. Before long, they formed a plan, began decorating the float, learned how to operate some of the surprises we'll have on-board and even set-up a quasi-assembly line to produce the hand-made shirts they'll be displaying in the parade. Way Cool!!

But, we can't show you all the things they have planned...got to have some secrets! Don't worry, though...you can see this awesome group in action at the Freedom Festival Parade on June 27th in Hiawatha. The parade kicks off at 10am, and we won't be hard to find...or hear!

The Scouts have a goal of bringing home one of the parade trophies, but they need your help to make that happen. Cheer! Applaud! Get up and dance to the music! This is going to be a memorable way to kick-off this special holiday celebration!

Pack 20, Troop 200 and V2K had a huge day yesterday hosting the "Scouting Skills Seminar" and the Pack 20 Recruiting Event at Pathfinder Outdoor Learning Center. Scouts from several local Packs (and a few friends and siblings) brushed up on their knot-tying techniques, various ways to build and start a fire and real-life first-aid techniques that have the potential to save a life.

Later, many of these Scouts joined new Pack 20 Scouts and their families at the Pack 20 Recruiting Event! Many comfort zones were destroyed through mastering the Climbing Tower, archery and Ga-Ga Ball. We finished up the day with Snow-Cones and a brief snow-ball fight in May. I suspect there were many tired kids last night (and some adults as well).

Attendance for both events far exceeded expectations, and a number of families chose to start their Scouting Career with Pack 20! We are honored that Pack 20 & Pathfinders will be your Scouting home!

Stay tuned to this space for information on upcoming events like the Freedom Festival Pinewood Derby, The Freedom Festival Parade and Monarch Festival. It's going to be a BIG summer!!

A REMINDER - TODAY IS THE DAY YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!

The FUN begins at 1pm with our annual Scouting Skills Seminar. Need to brush up on your knots and lashings, fire building or first-aid? Come to Pathfinders today and learn from the best!

Next up is our FREE Recruiting Event kicking off at 3:30pm. Challenge yourself on the climbing tower, score a bullseye in archery and work up a sweat in the best Ga-Ga Ball arena you've ever seen! When you're done, we'll get you cooled off with a Snow-Cone!

If you're already in Scouting, this is a great opportunity to improve your basic skills and meet like-minded people. Haven't decided if Scouting is a good fit for you and your family? There is no better way to find out than by lifting the hood, kicking the tires and trying it for yourself. That's what today is all about...learn new skills, meet new people, ask questions and have serious FUN, then decide if one of the five programs at Pathfinders is right for you.

We're looking forward to seeing YOU today!

A question many have asked recently is "do we have to join the Pack if we attend the Recruiting Event?" Great question with an easy answer - no.

Ultimately, the purpose of our Recruiting Event is to allow all families who are considering Scouting the opportunity to determine if Pack 20 is a good fit for their kids and their families. Each Scout, and each family, has a unique set of goals, interests and abilities. Our job as Adult Leaders and Youth Mentors is to make sure we help your Scouts achieve their individual goals while balancing their other responsibilities and activities.

Can you make that decision in two hours? Perhaps. If not, we'll have many opportunities this summer for you to join us and try Scouting first-hand. We have at least one campout planned, we'll be producing a Pinewood Derby during Freedom Festival (and likely participating in the parade), we'll be re-establishishing our Monarch habitats and we'll be going to Iowa County for a full day of outdoor activities like canoeing and archery.

If you can't join us on May 9th but you'd like to attend another event, send me a DM and I'll make sure you get an invitation.

Pack 20 is unlike any Scouting Unit you may be familiar with. We plan challenging, purposeful meetings and events, we don't "check boxes" and, most importantly, we listen to our Scouts and their families.

Please be sure to set-up your FREE family account at pathfinderoutdoor.org so you'll be the first to know about all our upcoming events.

Six youth programs. One family portal. Adventure, leadership, and skills for ages 5-21.
