💚 Baby Myrtle update! 💚 (Plot twist… Myrtle is a he! 😅🐢)

Myrtle came up to the hospital today for another tap since he’s still positively buoyant and having trouble diving ❤️‍🩹 Our team also collected blood for a culture test, which will be sent out for further testing.

We’re continuing to work hard to get to the bottom of what’s going on with this brave boy. Please keep those prayers and healing energies coming for Myrtle! 🙏🏼✨

More shell scrubs for Familia! 🐢🧽💚

While it may look like special treatment, these gentle brushings are an important part of her recovery, helping stimulate her shell as it continues to heal from her severe injuries ❤️‍🩹

Familia has made incredible progress so far, and we’re hoping to see that continue as this strong girl moves forward on her healing journey 🙏🏼💚🐢

Check out Thunder getting a good scratch from his Environmental Enrichment Device! 🥰🐢

Thunder is one of our educational ambassadors, a juvenile loggerhead rescued as a hatchling last summer after becoming disoriented by artificial lighting. Under a special permit from the State of Florida, Thunder gets to travel to schools and events throughout the Florida Keys to help educate others about his species 💚

And don’t worry, this little guy has a future in the ocean! Once his carapace (shell) reaches 45 cm in length, Thunder will be released into the Gulf Stream 🌊

Until then, we’re happy to have this adorable ambassador hanging around The Turtle Hospital and helping spread the word about sea turtle conservation! 🐢💚

A sweet moment with Sarah today 🥹💚🐢

Sarah received IV nutrition this morning to help support her as she continues to pass the remaining fishing line ❤️‍🩹 She also had some special visitors! Girl Scout Troop 325 came all the way from Lakeland Ranch, FL, to learn more about sea turtles and the work we do at The Turtle Hospital 💚

Sarah could still use all the prayers and healing energies we can send her way as she continues to recover 🙏🏼✨ We’re so grateful for the next generation of ocean advocates who are learning how to protect our marine life! 🌊🐢💚

Awax passed more plastic! 🙌🏼🐢💚

It’s a bittersweet moment. It’s heartbreaking to see how pollution impacts our coastlines and marine life, but getting more of this plastic out of Awax’s system is an encouraging step toward recovery ❤️‍🩹

We’re hoping this little hawksbill continues to feel better and get stronger each day. Keep those healing energies coming! 🙏🏼✨

🌧️🐢 Remember last summer when a tiny loggerhead hatchling named Stormy was found in a storm drain?

Strong storms and rough seas can wash post-hatchling sea turtles back onto shore, leaving these tiny turtles stranded in seaweed or in places they don’t belong, like swimming pools, yards, and even storm drains!

If you encounter a sea turtle hatchling stranded after a storm, please don’t attempt to return it to the ocean yourself. These little ones may need help from trained wildlife responders to ensure they have the best chance of survival.

📞 Found a stranded hatchling? Call The Turtle Hospital’s stranding hotline at 305-481-7669 or the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922 so trained responders can assist.

Stormy’s story is a great reminder that even the tiniest turtles sometimes need a helping flipper! 🐢💚
