Northstar Search and Rescue Northstar Search and Rescue is an all volunteer nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. We bring our skills to assist law enforcement in finding missing people.

Northstar Search and Rescue is an all volunteer nonprofit 501(c)3 organization and has been in existence for the past two decades. We bring our skills and experience to assist Law Enforcement in finding and recovering lost persons. Our dogs are trained in urban, wilderness and water search techniques. Our training and education is ongoing as we strive to be up to date with the latest in operationa

l procedures. This training is paid for by each individual, as well as, his/her equipment, travel expenses, and costs incurred regarding their canine. Our Team is also active in the community. We conduct educational programs directed toward preventing children and others from becoming lost, as well as, informing them of the best actions to take should they become lost.

Today at Chaska Safety Camp, our team had the opportunity to teach kids important outdoor safety skills, including the “Hug A Tree” program and simple tools they can use if they ever become lost in the woods. 🌲🐾
The kids learned how staying calm, staying put, and using basic survival tools can help rescuers find them faster and keep them safe. We also talked about ways to signal for help and what to do if they become separated from family while outdoors.
Thank you to everyone who came out and participated! We loved spending the day with the kids and helping teach skills that could one day save a life. 💙

Thunder

Wishing a very happy retirement to K9 Thunder! After 8 incredible years as a trailing, live-find search and rescue K9 with Northstar Search and Rescue, Thunder is officially hanging up his working vest. He has dedicated his career to following the scent of missing persons and bringing them home to their families.

Thunder will now spend his well-earned free time playing endless games of fetch with his favorite tennis balls at home. He is looking forward to relaxing with his mom, dad, human siblings, and K9 sisters—and he is ready to take on his newest role: big brother to a brand-new human baby sister!
