Northstar Search and Rescue is an all volunteer nonprofit 501(c)3 organization and has been in existence for the past two decades. We bring our skills and experience to assist Law Enforcement in finding and recovering lost persons. Our dogs are trained in urban, wilderness and water search techniques. Our training and education is ongoing as we strive to be up to date with the latest in operational procedures. This training is paid for by each individual, as well as, his/her equipment, travel expenses, and costs incurred regarding their canine. Our Team is also active in the community. We conduct educational programs directed toward preventing children and others from becoming lost, as well as, informing them of the best actions to take should they become lost.

🐾❤️ Happy Retirement, K9 Sophie! ❤️🐾

After an incredible 9-year career as a Human Remains Detection (HRD) K9, our sweet Sophie is officially enjoying her well-deserved retirement! 🐕‍🦺

Throughout her career, Sophie traveled far and wide, from the Atlantic Ocean to the whitewater rapids of Montana, and from International Falls all the way down to Texas. Wherever the call for help came from, Sophie was ready to answer.

Whether she was searching through a blizzard or working in 110-degree heat, Sophie never let the conditions stop her. She worked tirelessly alongside her handler, dedicating nine years to helping bring answers and closure to families searching for their missing loved ones. ❤️

Now, after years of hard work, dedication, and countless miles traveled, it's finally time for Sophie to trade her search gear for some much-deserved relaxation, extra treats, and endless love! 🦴🐾

But don't worry, you haven't seen the last of Sophie! She'll still be out and about in the community, soaking up all the attention and belly rubs she can get. After all, being loved on is one job she'll never retire from! 🥰

Thank you, K9 Sophie, for nine incredible years of service, dedication, and love. You've earned every minute of your retirement! ❤️🐾

From urban tracks to finding a person hiding in a dumpster and navigating playgrounds, our tracking K9s were put to the test today! 🐕‍🦺
Our HRD teams worked through the challenges of strong wind gusts, problem-solving and narrowing down the scent cone to pinpoint the source of the odor.
