Native aquatic plants help keep lakes healthy, reduce erosion and are a safeguard against invasive species. Yet they get a bad rap as a nuisance, and property owners often remove them with chemicals or machines.

Please consider signing up for Starry Trek on Sat, Aug 8th. Meet at the Blue Heron in Cold Spring to check out area lakes!!
*This is how Starry Stonewort was found on Carnelian Lake and prompted treatment.
Local training sites are located across the state and will be hosted by local agencies, organizations, and individuals to search nearby locations. Participants will meet at the local training site in the morning and will be assigned monitoring routes to search upon arrival. They will then drive their personal vehicles (or carpool with another participant) to up to 5 public accesses. All participants will need to return to the local training site by 1:00pm to check-in and turn in any specimens and datasheets at the end of the day. No experience necessary!

Join us at locations across Minnesota for a day of searching for starry stonewort, mystery snails, and other aquatic invasive species!

It’s going to be a busy weekend on the water!

If you’re heading out this Memorial Day weekend, please prioritize your safety. The water in many places is still cold and an unexpected fall in could have tragic consequences.

A few things to keep in mind:

* Wear a life jacket
* Wear your engine cut-off lanyard
* Leave the alcohol on shore
* Pay attention and reduce distractions when operating a boat

We’ll see you out there!
