Attention, high school seniors: Catholic Charities of Madison is now accepting applications for the $2,000 Mary Jeanne Kennedy Anderson Youth Faith in Action Scholarship. It recognizes students who live out their faith by serving their parish and community.

Applications are due Friday, December 11.

Whether they're volunteering at their parish, serving their community, mentoring others, or leading service projects, we want to celebrate the impact they're making. Applications are now open for the Mary Jeanne Kennedy Anderson Youth Faith in Action Scholarship, which awards $2,000 scholarships to students who exemplify faith through service.

CMC's Schulte Food Pantry Garden is coming to the end of the season this month, but we want to highlight the great things the garden has achieved.

So far this year, the garden leaders have worked with volunteers at the Schulte garden to harvest over 6,104 pounds and 32 varieties of produce for our food pantry and free community meal programs.

Last week, CMC co-hosted the biannual Immigrant Town Hall with the League of Women Voters of Dane County, Literacy Network, Voces de la Frontera, Open Doors for Refugees, and the Dane County Office of Immigration Affairs.

Focused on Spanish-speaking community members, the forum brought elected leaders and officials who explained their roles and how different levels of government and separation of powers work in the U.S., and listened to constituents they don’t often hear from. This was our fifth year hosting the event, and it remains a valuable space for community and leaders to connect.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we spoke with Joshy, CMC's administrative assistant, about what parts of her culture she is most proud of and how she continues Nicaraguan traditions throughout her life in the U.S.:

"I’m proud of the strong work ethic and determination that Latinos bring wherever they go. We have a strong spirit and a genuine desire to help others."

"I love speaking Spanish, my native language, and always speak Spanish with my family because I don't want to lose that connection to Hispanic culture. I also love celebrating my culture through food, like gallo pinto (rice and beans), which is common to eat every day."
