On Saturday, the New Wineskins committee hosted our two 2026 Grant Recipients, First Baptist Church in Waukesha, and The Crossing Campus Ministry at the University of Wisconsin Madison, for a lunch and mid-point report for the 2026 grant cycle.

First Baptist Waukesha shared how their third year of the CONNECT youth group has grown to include youth from different backgrounds and connecting their experiences to the biblical story. Youth have shared their experiences of living in refugee camps as well as being immigrants in the US along with Euro-American youth sharing their stories and seeing themselves in the Exodus narrative. Together, they are growing in faith and understanding and expanding in the community.

The Crossing hosted an interfaith bioethics conference that included religious background in understanding medical care choices. The conference was well attended and participation at The Crossing has increased by Christians as well as people from other faith backgrounds as they engage in this kind of interfaith dialogue.

Both grant recipients will share reports at our Annual Gathering in October.

All food will be set up on the second floor. Students are invited to grab a plate and study anywhere throughout the building!

Madison Area DSA will be hosting a pancake breakfast 9am - 11am, May 1st, 2026, at The Crossing 1127 University Avenue, in preparation for Madison May Day 2026. The breakfast is open to all at no cost, with a suggested donation of ten dollars, any proceeds going to the Voces De La Frontera (VDLF) immigrant defense legal fund.

With multiple ICE raids happening in Madison and the surrounding area, it is imperative that we as the working class– the everyday citizens– make our anger clear and utilize this time tested strategy. Now, unions, faith groups, community organizations, and working people around the U.S. and in Wisconsin are calling for a mass day of action on May 1st, 2026.

MADSA calls on all interested Madison residents to attend, especially those participating in the May Day “No school, no work, no shopping;” or those attending the VDLF rally later in the day. During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to meet other community members and build the connections foundational to working class power. A few short speeches will be held during the event, focusing on the labor history around May Day/General Strikes. After enjoying pancakes, attendees are encouraged to feed into the VDLF march 12pm, Library Mall 715 State Street.
