Ride For Your Life is returning to Madison on Sunday, October 4! Join us as we remember those who were lost to traffic violence and work towards specific legislative and policy proposals for a safer future. Ride for Your Life

Event date/time: Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 1pm
Route: Brittingham Park to Madison’s State Capitol
Options: 6-mile bike ride or 1-mile walk
Post ride/walk rally: on the steps of State Capitol with elected officials, community leaders and leaders of our movement

This year’s event is dedicated to 17-year old Sasha Rosen, a Madison West High School senior who was killed by a speeding driver while crossing South Park Street to catch the bus. His story is a tragic reminder that more than 100 Americans die walking, biking, and driving on our roads every single day.

Let’s talk about Regent Street. We should be designing our streets for the future that we want to build.

The decisions made in the Regent Street design will impact the way that we move around our city for the next 30+ years.

At Madison Bikes, we believe parking should never take priority over people.

Lake Monona causeway path is now closed. AKA The Big Groan.

We’d thought it had been planned for end of July, but apparently they’re ahead of schedule.

This closure will last a full year! But, like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, it will reopen as a completely different experience with separate biking, walking, and running paths; better separation from traffic; more greenspace; smooth, separate bridges; and more. And immediately after, expect pedestrian boardwalks, public art, and a viewpoint pier as part of Madison Lakeway (https://www.madisonlakeway.org/).

The detour adds 1.5 miles, but it’s a safe and lovely ride where you can find water fountains, a swimming beach, and Lakeside St. Coffee House.

Last week, our neighbors in McFarland said goodbye to 8-year-old Braeyla Valenza, who was killed while riding her bike across Broadhead Street at North Peninsula Way. On Friday night, the community gathered for a vigil dressed in purple, Braeyla’s favorite color, to celebrate her life and hold space for grief.

Braeyla’s family has asked that her death be a reminder for drivers to slow down. They’ve also called for changes to the intersection where she was hit, so other children in the neighborhood can bike and play safely.

Every kid deserves to get where they’re going safely. We’re holding Braeyla’s family, friends, and the whole McFarland community in our hearts, and we’ll keep advocating for the safer streets our kids deserve.

This ride is about being seen, being yourself, and riding together in all the ways that make cycling joyful.
