The Georgia Dermatology Professional Association exists to strengthen connection, education, and professional community for dermatology PAs and NPs in Georgia.

Join us at the PEARLS 2026 Conference, Sept. 2–5th in Savannah! Promotes the education and profession of PAs in Dermatology in the state of Georgia. We offer networking and educational opportunities through email, social networking, dinner programs as well our annual CME conference (Dermatology PEARLS: Physician Extenders Advanced Regional Learning Symposium.) GDPA is recognized as a not for profit corporation under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Psoriasis follow-ups: how are the joints?

A nearly clear skin exam doesn’t tell you everything about psoriatic disease.

At PEARLS 2026, Stefan C. Weiss, MD, FAAD shared a teaching case with limited skin involvement but dactylitis and Achilles enthesitis. The takeaway for derm PAs and NPs: skin severity alone doesn’t capture the full disease burden.

For World Psoriasis Day, a reminder to ask beyond the plaques:
• Any joint pain or swelling?
• Stiffness in the morning or after sitting?
• Swelling of an entire finger or toe?
• Heel pain?

These symptoms warrant further assessment for psoriatic arthritis, even when the skin looks well controlled. A validated screening tool such as PEST can support screening, with rheumatology evaluation when PsA is suspected.

Save these prompts for your next psoriasis follow-up.

The GDPA connections run deep. We needed arrows to explain them.

Valery helped precept Erika during her derm rotation, and they both met Thuy at a rep dinner. GDPA networking events introduced Thuy to Tu and Will. And PEARLS is where Thuy and Valery met the Pereyos.

Different introductions, overlapping circles, and everyone together for one photo.

Bullous pemphigoid without the bullae? A gem worth keeping. 💎

Introducing Derm Dinner Gem! We’re sharing a clinical pearl from GDPA’s educational events so the learning continues after we log off or head home.

Our first gem comes from October 13’s “Innovations in Bullous Pemphigoid Management”: 20% of patients with bullous pemphigoid present with nonbullous pemphigoid.

A reminder that the presentation may look different than the name suggests.

🎟 Tickets will arrive at your registration email by Thursday evening.

🚪 Gates open at 6 PM, and you’re welcome to head straight to Suite S297. For suite access, use the North Suite Entrance near the Soccer Ball Statue and Gate 1, turn left toward the elevators, and go to level S2. The suite will be on your left.

🚗 Parking passes will be emailed to those who registered first. If you receive a Red Deck pass, use 285 Andrew Young International Blvd NW and head toward the stadium from Floor 4. Public parking options are available nearby for those without a pass.

👜 The stadium’s clear bag policy applies. Review the bag guidelines before heading out, and check your event email for full arrival details.

Pediatric AD: What if needles are the barrier?

Dr. Pearl Kwong shares what she’s looking forward to in pediatric atopic dermatitis treatment: more oral options and less frequent, more comfortable injections, especially for children who fear needles.

Her answer puts the child’s treatment experience at the center of the conversation.

“Is food causing my eczema?” A familiar question in the derm clinic.

That conversation deserves more than a quick yes or no.

Understanding the relationship between atopic dermatitis and food allergy can help PAs and NPs explain the role of the skin barrier and recognize when an allergy referral could help.
