The success of Suncoast Kids Place is highly dependent on volunteers. The fact is, it cannot happen without them. You don’t have to be an expert in the field or have all the right things to say; you just need to be someone who is willing to listen and cares about others.

“To be kind is more important than to be right. Many times, what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a special heart that listens.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald

A volunteer's commitment to each grief & loss peer support group is 2.5 hours twice a month. Volunteers will be part of a team that interacts directly with children, teens, or caregivers who are grieving the death of a significant person(s).

Volunteer Roles

Children’s/Teen’s Group Volunteer - Support the Group Leader with the kids and group activity. These volunteers will have the opportunity to let their inner child shine while playing and interacting with the kids. They are encouraged to briefly share and participate in the group to show the children and teens that other people have experienced grief and that there are adults who care about them.

Adult Group Volunteer Facilitator - Co-lead an adult caregiver group to encourage and guide them to learn about how grief impacts their children, share information about the activities their children are involved in during their time in the group, and help them find comfort from other caregivers going through similar experiences.

Therapy Dog Owner - Approved therapy dogs only. Support the group by bringing your Therapy Dog. Encouraged to briefly share and participate in the group. SKP partners with Canines for Christ.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older. All potential volunteers are required to have a scheduled interview with a staff member, complete the volunteer training and the Mandated Reporter training, fill out a volunteer application, and pass a national criminal background check.

What a joy to spend some time pouring into the people who pour so much into others! 💛🎳🎶

As we get ready for a new school year of providing grief and loss peer support groups and education, we took some time to pause, connect, laugh, and have FUN together!

Moments like these remind us just how important connection is, especially in the work we do.

We’re so grateful for this team and the heart they bring to the families and community we serve. And while not everyone could join us (so you won’t see our whole team pictured!), those who weren’t present were definitely missed and are very much a part of this crew! 🫶

Here’s to a new school year filled with connection, compassion, support, and making a difference together! ✨

A huge thank you to the Tampa Bay Rays for providing tickets for our incredible staff, volunteers, and Camp Erin Tampa Bay families! 💙⚾

After a meaningful and memorable Camp Erin weekend, it was so special to come back together, reconnect, share smiles, and enjoy a fun night at the ballpark. Opportunities like these help strengthen the bonds we’ve built and remind our grieving children and families that they are part of a caring community that continues beyond camp.

We’re grateful for generosity and support in helping create moments of connection, healing, and joy!

SKP School Initiative 2025-2026 School Year Impact Report (Below):

During the 2025–2026 school year, we provided our 8-week grief and loss peer support groups at 25 different schools, facilitating 29 groups and supporting a total of 186 students.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible school initiative lead facilitators.

This school year, we also provided several psychoeducational presentations throughout Hillsborough County Schools, not only to their mental health teams, but also to teachers and faculty members. In total, through our psychoeducational presentation support, we served 240+ individuals.

We were able to provide these trainings in multiple formats: in person at school locations, virtually, and on-site at Bay Hope Church. Having school mental health teams visit Bay Hope and tour the SKP Center has been a wonderful experience for everyone involved. Many were impressed by how welcoming and beautiful the church is, as well as how accessible the SKP center is. Several shared that they were previously unaware of the center’s location and the many resources and services it offers.

Bringing these professionals into the church and the SKP center has also helped bridge an important gap between schools and community resources. It has created stronger relationships, increased awareness of available support for students and families, and opened the door for greater collaboration in serving our community together.

We are looking forward to a productive summer! ☀️

Today, we celebrate 18 years of the Suncoast Kids Place, a community ministry at Bay Hope Church!

That’s right, SKP is officially a legal adult! While that means we can now technically vote, join the military, get a tattoo, or buy a lottery ticket, we think we’ll skip all that. Instead, we are going to keep doing exactly what we have loved doing best for the last 18 years, supporting the grieving community of Tampa Bay.

We could never have reached this milestone without you. Thank you so much for your continued love, prayers, and support! 🙌🏼
