Are you hitting that afternoon slump and scrolling through social media? Well, let's talk about the weekend forecast!

I know there's a lot going on this weekend, and the weather matters will share some thoughts on potential coastal impacts from a coastal low! Friday will be another hot day, with highs in the 80s in most areas and some spots hitting 90° again. No weather concerns.

Friday night, a strong cold front will move through into Saturday; a few showers will move into the mountains and foothills early evening and into the early overnight, then push east across the rest of the state. Not expecting much rain; no flooding worries, just isolated showers. Winds will be gusty in the mountains and foothills, 40-50MPH gusts likely, especially in the higher elevations Friday night into Saturday. I know the Wolly Worm Festival is happening in Banner Elk, so watch those tents.

Saturday: Clearing out from west to east, a few scattered/isolated showers possible Saturday morning from Raleigh east to the coast, clearing out in the afternoon and evening further east. Clouds clear west to east through the day; some sunshine is likely, especially further west. Not much rain around at all; no washout or anything like that.

It'll be sharply cooler, with highs in the 50s and 60s statewide Saturday, & windy, with 20-35 mph winds higher in the mountains and along the coast. Saturday night lows will be in the 40s and 50s for Central and Eastern NC, with 40s and 30s in the mountains and foothills; there is a risk of frost/freeze at higher elevations. Can't rule out a couple of snowflakes at the highest elevations??

Sunday: More sunshine statewide, & only an isolated shower chance along the Outer Banks. Highs in the 60s/50s for most areas, with 50s in the higher mountain elevations.

Coastal Low? A long-duration NE wind event, potentially a developing Coastal Low, will be possible along the coast, especially the Outer Banks. 30-45MPH wind gusts are likely through at least Monday. High Surf and the potential for and at minimum, some minor coastal flooding mainly along the vulnerable areas of the Outer Banks, Hatteras Island/ Ocracoke, Saturday night into early next week. The rest of the coast looks windy and high surf, but the risk of Coastal Low appears low; will monitor that. If your travels take you to Hatteras Island later this weekend into early next week it worth staying aware of potential Highway 12 impacts, but high uncertainties remain. I'll keep you updated.

A little different day for parts of the NE sections of the state, the rest of the state will bake as Hotober keeps rolling on. Happy Thursday, North Carolina! We will see partly to mostly sunny skies with more clouds along the VA border and esp for NE sections of the state as a backdoor cold front is around. Highs will be in the 80s to 90s for most of the state outside the mountains, and in the 70s to low 80s in the mountains and NE NC.

👏🏻 Here we go a new week, and a new week of weather headlines! It’s looking good though, so lots of time to get outside and enjoy it!

Tuesday-Thursday: Mostly Sunny skies with highs in the 80s for most 70s in the mountains, Wednesday and Thursday parts of Central and Eastern NC will make a run at record highs with temps in the upper 80s to near 90°.

Tuesday morning folks across parts of Eastern/Central NC should look in the Eastern sky just after 6:30AM and you might see a rocket cloud going by from a rocket launch.

Friday: it’ll be warm still in the 80s but a cold front rolls in Friday late day/ evening and it could spark a few scattered showers and maybe a stray storm in the evening. Will monitor coverage.

North Carolina Weekend: It looks like a gorgeous fall weekend with mostly sunny skies highs in the 60s and 70s for most areas, and a risk of the first frost and freeze for parts of the Western sections of the state and maybe a frost a little further into the foothills/ central NC Saturday night.

In addition to the strong cold front behind it we will see windy conditions, and it could bring potential Coastal Flooding and dangerous marine conditions especially along the Outer Banks. Stay tuned.
