🥵 Are you ready? The heat is returning in a big way in the first week of September. A ridge of high pressure will build in across the state, leading to soaring temperatures back into the mid/upper 90s for most areas, with some spots breaking 100° as the actual high temperature. Heat index values will be higher; this will start Monday and last all next week into the Labor Day weekend. Limited storm chances due to the high pressure being more directly overhead. A little cooler in the mountains and along the coast but still hot and humid; there is really no end in sight for the foreseeable future.

🌧️ Flood Advisory Active In East Fayetteville NC

⚠️ A Flood Advisory is in effect for eastern Cumberland County until 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.

🌊 Minor flooding is occurring or expected in low-lying and poor-drainage areas as thunderstorms produce heavy rainfall.

📏 Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen across the broader advisory area, with another 1 to 2 inches possible.

🏘️ Stedman, Cedar Creek and Falcon are among the Cumberland County communities included.

🚗 Drivers should watch for standing water and avoid attempting to cross flooded roads. Conditions can change quickly where drainage is poor.

On this date 21 years ago, Hurricane Katrina made landfall along the Louisiana/ Mississippi border. Katrina was a high-end Category 3 at the time of landfall, with winds of 125 mph and higher gusts. It brought catastrophic damage, particularly in the city of New Orleans and the surrounding areas, leaving thousands of people dead and causing over $206 billion in damage.

A different day is ahead. Happy Saturday, North Carolina! We have a stalled front across the state, which will spark scattered showers and thunderstorms. We will see a few scattered showers and thunderstorms along the coast this morning, and an isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible inland into central NC. We will see a break in the action across the state by mid to late morning towards lunchtime. Highs will be a little cooler today, in the 80s for most of the state. As we head into this afternoon and evening, a few isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop; they could bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall. After today, we will turn drier and much warmer for the foreseeable future across NC.

10:19PM: We’ve started to calm down across the state; just a few isolated thunderstorms are left in the Northeastern sections of the state. Otherwise, it’s pretty quiet across the state.

5:44PM: The main cluster of showers and thunderstorms is from Charlotte back to Asheboro down to the Western Sandhills; these are producing gusty winds and heavy rainfall, which are the main threats. Storms will generally die down after 9/10PM; so far, coverage has been isolated/scattered.
