The Transit Center Mentoring Program of Robeson County helps to empower youth in our community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential. The mentoring program uses adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one year.
Position Summary: The Program Director oversees the development and implementation of the youth mentoring program, which matches adult or peer volunteer mentors with youth in a one-to-one relationship. The Program Director ensures program quality and performance related to recruiting, screening, training, matching, monitoring, and closing the relationship with the mentor and child, and communicates with the mentor, parent/guardian, and child throughout the relationship. Reporting to the Program Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the mentoring program, and will carry out the responsibilities of the position as defined below:
Responsibilities:
• Perform and oversee participant screening, training, matching, support and supervision, recognition, and closure activities
• Develop and manage relationships with community partners, including schools and social service agencies
• Oversee inquiry and orientation process to ensure excellent public relations and customer service
• Manage the planning and implementation of group events (e.g., bowling trips, pizza parties, end-of-year events)
• Plan and implement recognition activities for program participants
• Maintain and update the program’s policy and procedure manual as needed
• Oversee program evaluation activities
• Attend professional development opportunities to increase knowledge of mentoring best practices and youth development concepts
• Complete other duties and activities as needed
Qualifications:
qualifications include a combination of education and experience to include at least a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university or at least 2 years of experience in community development. The program coordinator will help prepare and conduct interest meetings, orientations, and evaluations of potential mentors.
Compensation: $13.50/hour
Hours/Pay Period: Est. 10 -15 hours/week (monthly).
