Lakeshore Food Club Nutritious food. Dignified access. Stronger community. That’s what Lakeshore Food Club makes possible every day.
(1)

Lakeshore Food Club is a choice-based food access organization rooted in dignity, nourishment, and community. Through our grocery-style Food Club, school-placed programs, and Regional Food Hub, we work to ensure families, students, and seniors across our region have reliable access to fresh, healthy food in welcoming and respectful spaces. We believe food access should support not only physical we

ll-being, but also confidence, stability, and connection. By partnering with local farmers, schools, volunteers, and community organizations, we’re helping build a stronger regional food system where neighbors can choose the foods that fit their lives and feel supported along the way. Together, we are creating a community where healthy food is within reach and everyone is treated with dignity.

Today, we’re celebrating the older adults who are such an important part of our community.

At Lakeshore Food Club, we believe everyone deserves to be welcomed with dignity, offered meaningful choice, and feel a true sense of community. That doesn’t change with age.

In July alone, 527 seniors were among the 2,407 neighbors we served. Behind that number are grandparents, parents, friends, neighbors, and community members.

For some, having the freedom to choose the foods they bring home means stretching a budget a little further. For others, it's about finding foods that fit their preferences, traditions, or needs. And for all of us, it's about knowing you have a place in your community where you're welcomed and valued.

Our mission is to provide dignified access to healthy and nutritious food. But the heart of that mission is the people we have the privilege of serving.

Today, we're grateful for the older adults who choose to make Lakeshore Food Club part of their community.

Did you know we have a cookbook library for members?

It's easy—take a book, leave a book! But our shelves are getting a little sparse, and we'd love your help filling them back up!

If you have gently used cookbooks collecting dust, we'd love to give them a new home. Whether it's a favorite family cookbook, healthy recipes, or budget-friendly meal ideas, your donation could inspire someone else to try something new in the kitchen.

Simply bring your cookbook donations to Lakeshore Food Club during business hours and check in with a staff member when you arrive. Thank you for helping us nourish our neighbors—one recipe at a time.

First, thank you.

Every donation we receive is a gift to our community, and we're so grateful for your generosity.

To help us make the most of every donation, we have one small request: Please don't leave donations outside our doors or on the front counter without speaking with a team member.

When donations are left outside, we can't always ensure they remain within food safety guidelines. When items are left on the counter without letting us know, it's difficult for our staff and volunteers to know whether they're donations, member purchases, or inventory. That means well-intentioned donations can sometimes be missed or not properly recorded.

The best way to donate is to hand your donation directly to a staff member. Our back door is the preferred drop-off location and is typically unlocked beginning at 9:00 a.m., Monday through Saturday. If you want to ensure our staff is available to greet you, please give us a call - 231-480-4334.

Thank you for helping us care for every donation with the same care and respect with which it was given. Together, we're able to make an even greater impact in our community.

Every strong community is built by people who choose to invest in possibility.

Last week, our Executive Director, O'Nealya Gronstal, had the honor of serving as the keynote speaker at the Community Foundation for Mason County - MI Annual Gathering — a celebration of what can happen when neighbors come together around a shared vision for the future.

During her remarks, O'Nealya reflected on the journey of Lakeshore Food Club—from serving just a few hundred households in 2017 to becoming a regional food access network that now reaches thousands of neighbors through our Food Club, school-based programs, and Regional Food Hub.

That journey didn't happen overnight. It happened because people believed in the vision before they could see the results.

We are especially grateful to the Community Foundation for Mason County, whose investment of more than $130,000 since our founding has helped strengthen and expand this work. Their partnership—and the support of so many generous donors, volunteers, businesses, and community partners—has helped build something far greater than any one organization could accomplish alone.

As O'Nealya shared, "I see the people who helped build this. I see the people who believed in a food club before it was proven. I see the people who invested in a food hub before it existed."

To everyone who has walked alongside us on this journey: thank you. Because of you, more families, students, and seniors have access to healthy food with dignity, choice, and community at the center. And together, we're continuing to build a stronger food system for the future.

Planting Hope This World Hunger Day

Today, on World Hunger Day, we’re choosing to celebrate the quiet, powerful ways our community nurtures hope. At Lakeshore Food Club, we believe that hunger is not inevitable—it is something we can overcome together when we invest in one another with care, stability, and dignity.

Whether it’s families choosing the healthy foods they need in our grocery-style market, students gaining access to consistent nourishment, or our Regional Food Hub connecting local growers to neighbors, hope is taking root across our region every single day.

To our volunteers, donors, partners, and neighbors: thank you for showing up. Your support is the foundation of this work, proving that when a community comes together, we create real, lasting change.

Thank you for being part of a community where hope is planted daily and where it continues to grow.
