This is a photo of my grandmother and I, and it's special to me because her last words to me were, βAnd JASON WITH THOSE BIG BROWN EYES.β She said this as I walked into her hospital room. The thing I'm most grateful for is that when she said this, it was over ten years after this photo was taken, and I was sober and a full 100 pounds heavier, the same weight I am today. At least she was able to see my eyes sober, and I was sober to see through them. I wasn't able to make my grandmother's funeral because I had to rush back to the heart center in Grand Rapids, where my wife was admitted because her heart was failing due to working so hard to support childbirth and stage 5 kidney failure. I lost my grandmother and my son that week. I nearly list my wife as well. I managed to remain sober with the support of my wife, Mom Bettye my mother-in-law, and visits to my recovery home group at St. Mary's church. Recovery is possible, and you can do it to if you have hope, faith, and support.
I hope this made sense and came off okay because I wrote this in bed, waking up with tears in my eyes.
