Today, the South Plains Young Marines held a mock encampment drill in preparation for our upcoming encampment later this month!

We kicked off the day with a thorough gear inspection, ensuring every Young Marine and Recruit knew exactly what they had, what they needed, and what they may still be missing before heading into the field. From there, everyone put their camping skills to the test by pitching their tents, inspecting them for serviceability, and then properly breaking them down and packing them away.

After chow, the Young Marines and Recruits learned how to make ranger beads, an important land navigation tool used to track distance traveled. The remainder of the afternoon was spent working on guidebook sign-offs, helping our youth continue their progress toward future promotions and achievements.

We're proud of the hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm shown by all of our Young Marines and Recruits today. Every drill brings them one step closer to becoming more confident leaders and better prepared for the challenges ahead. We look forward to putting these skills to use at encampment later this month!

Today was another productive drill day for the South Plains Young Marines!

A special thank you to SSG Gary Carroll of the Texas State Guard, for coming out and teaching our Young Marines and Recruits land navigation skills. The class covered plotting five points on a map and then putting those skills into practice by locating the points out in the field.

Congratulations to YM/CPL Cuellar, who successfully completed the navigation course and earned his Map & Compass Ribbon today!

In addition to navigation training, several Young Marines worked on make-up Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) hours by completing reports. Others continued developing their PSA projects, finalizing scripts for approval so they can move forward with storyboards and begin practicing and filming at our June Encampment.

We also had several Young Marines and Recruits earn additional sign-offs toward their advancement and training goals.

Thank you to everyone who came out ready to learn, work hard, and challenge themselves. Every drill is an opportunity to build confidence, leadership, and valuable life skills. Semper Fidelis!

Today, the South Plains Young Marines had the honor of participating in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the City of Lubbock Cemetery, where more than 2,000 veterans are laid to rest. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Our Young Marines proudly led the Pledge of Allegiance, and YM/CPL Cuellar had the privilege of assisting the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office with the raising and lowering of the flag during the ceremony.

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We are proud of our Young Marines for representing our unit and community with respect, professionalism, and patriotism today.
