Good evening and good news Department of Texas American Legion Riders. Over the past couple of years we have been working with Steve Cook (department finance officer) and Bill West (department adjutant) on how to make sure Texas gets recognized by national for the donations that get raised and turned in for the Legacy Fund. Today I was on a conference call with Bill and Steve and we have worked out the details. This is how it’s going to work. When you make your donation if by check, the check needs to be made out to the Department of Texas. In the memo line write Legacy Fund. This is important because of some changes in IRS regulations the department needs to track all donations. This has fallen on my shoulders to track as the departments ALR advisor. As in the past when I receive a donation I log it down on a spreadsheet with how much who made the donation a physical address (cannot be a P.O. Box) Point of contact and phone number. This spreadsheet then gets turned in to national so that you get your credit. This will remain in place but now I’ll be working with the department. In the past others have collected donations and haven’t been included in the total amount turned in. So I’m asking that if your Chapter, Post, Unit or others decided to make a donation please contact me and I’ll help you with this. Most of you will make your donations during an ALR event SCTXALR Legacy Run or at the State Rally and I’ll be there to your accept donations. You may also mail your donation directly to the department. During the National Convention this year we will have the opportunity to present our donations to the National Commander on stage and finally get the recognition you deserve for all your hard work. Hopefully this helps you understand the process.

Thank You.
See you down the road!
