Every seed planted today helps cultivate community, connection, and a sense of belonging. At the Roots Booker T. Washington Community Garden, we’re creating opportunities for neighbors to learn, serve, and grow together.

These black skin peanut plants look healthy, and they’re a great crop for a West Texas community garden. Peanuts are legumes, so they help improve soil fertility by working with bacteria that capture nitrogen from the air and make it available in the soil. They also tolerate heat and drought better than many garden crops once established. The one thing they don’t like is “wet feet”—waterlogged soil can lead to rot and poor pod development. Earth Day reminds us that growth starts small 🌱
Right now, our apples are forming, asparagus is thriving, and beans are pushing through the soil.

But the most important thing growing here? Community.

Join us this weekend as we come together to plant, build, and take care of something bigger than ourselves.
